Cancer

My older brother (81 yrs) was just told that the pain he feels is inoperable cancer. He has smoked Pall Mall since I am able to remember. He has been a cool guy. Had a Thunderbird with the retractible top, etc. Played good golf- nice looking women prior to his marriage to a beautiful mate. What a freaking ignoble ending.
Sorry. I'm pissed.

Sad news!

Its horrible news, but it seems like he's had a great time with his life to this point. Hope that makes it easier on all involved. I was diagnosed with intestinal C at 39 yrs old.....I tell ya what, it never feels fair, EVER!!! Good luck to him and your family.

Sad and sorry to hear. I hope the rest of his ride doesn't suck too badly.

I have to say, though, as someone who smoked for decades myself, he made it quite a ways. If he's been smoking steadily for 65 years or more, that's some real physical resilience. My Dad is 80 and quit smoking at about 60, he got smoking-related cancer @ 70 but beat it so far. He's physically wrecked from it, however.

I wish him and you the best, you sound like a good brother.

Tough go, Pall Malls regardless.

Try and read this book: The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer: Siddhartha Mukherjee: 9781439170915: Amazon.com: Books

Best to all of you.

Among the best books I've ever read. Life changer. Yes, read it.

Exactly, cancer sucks for sure, but you wouldnt catch me complaining about living a full life and making it to 81...

Sorry for the very sad news. My grandfather had lung CA, but died from COPD, which was a long, slow death. We tried our best to make his death as painless at it could be (it was painless) and as peaceful and as respectful to his pride and dignity as possible...

Very sad and my condolences. If I knew I'd make it to 81 as a lifelong smoker, I'd never think about quitting. I smoke 1/2 pack a day of ultralights and worry about it.

porsche4life 11-10-2012 08:48 PM

You don't worry enough, or you'd quit....

So sorry to hear this.
Ten years ago, I lost my first wife to cancer. Three weeks after that, I lost my brother to it.
