I am sure 1/10 of 1% of the users will fall for it, and that could be enough to make it worthwhile.

San Paolo Michigan does not exist.

LOL. If these scammers ever learn English grammar they might actually be semi-convincing.

I get close to 100 spams emails per day, but they all go into my spam filter. I scroll through them to see if anything legit got caught in there. Since the spam has exploded in the last six mos., I have found exactly one email that didn't belong in there. I wouldn't even open an email from someone I hadn't heard of.

As you said, if they are stupid enough to bite then they are highly likely to be exploitable. It's all about efficiency, if it's a perfectly written and executed ploy then you will likely attract smarter people that will pick up on it after you've wasted time and energy on them. |
Maybe call the local PD and/or Intuit itself, and ask a detective if they're willing to let you use their contact info for a sting.
Then write a response: "Oh my gd, please don't close my account. What do I do to fix this? I'll write to your address. Contact me at _[PD/Intuit]_" They prosecute kids who copy movies to the ends of the earth. Why not bank fraud? It's only slightly more important. Why isn't this Public Enemy #1? |
