Cool old communist monuments
Saw this the other day... these are some awesome concrete monuments in former communist states. Concrete certainly seems to be the medium of choice:

Further proof that just because you can do something, doesn't mean that you should.

Weird, and a bit creepy.

Wonder what will be built here in the coming years.

Very cool monuments. I have seen these before on the interwebs.
I do take offense with the wording in that article - what does "abandoned" mean? Do you need to feed a monument? If it is a monument to a battle or a massacre, of course it will be on the grounds of this event. These battlegrounds are often in the boonies. These same monuments can be found in western countries, just as abandoned. They mostly are a destination for a Sunday hike at best. Having these monuments today is the only reminder for what happened in those landscapes. If the monuments were not there, the suffering and battles would be unknown to anyone passing through - and the sufferers would be abandoned indeed. G |

These things are really unbelieveable, especially the ones in Russia. You have to see them in person to really realize how massive they are. This one is in Volograd... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353277433.jpg |
I think "weird" and "creepy" is probably just a matter of perspective and familiarity.

I think in some cases, abandoned means Abandoned.
