I've been promised a very special Paramount, by the widow of a very good friend, who happened to very IMSA crew chief of the year and worked for some major teams. I'm not sure which one of these, but his widow told me that he would want me to have one, because I, one, appreciate what it is, and two, he appreciated my friendship. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1728530462.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1728530462.jpg Obviously, one of those bikes that will never be sold. |
Very cool, Byron.
Nothing like a hand brazed steelie! Also awesome to have made such an influence on so many people as you have. Neat to keep a memento of your friend’s. I liked the “paramount” days. Their custom paint was pretty cool already then. Are those actually two different bikes? Seems like it’s the same frame (at least color scheme) with different builds. I’ll have to drop some pics of my kid here sometime. He has some cool bikes - although modern. Technology is awesome these days. Prices are horribly high though. |

My brother picked this up last week for less than $100. I think these were $3,000-4,000 in the 90s. 650c wheels. It will be a wallhanger. He's debating on stripping it to the frame or returning it to stock (mainly removing the ridiculous elk-antler handlebars! :D ).

If you don't mind looking for proper tires, they are harder to find nowadays. https://i.imgur.com/HSvGlbC.jpg |
I really like the look in yellow. Nice! I read a review from back in the day and they praised the ride. They also predicted that formed frames like the Kestrel had no future and carbon tubes were the way to go :D

^ I like that last photo, Curt.
I believe an Ibis Hakkalugi (not certain about the spelling...) Every one came with a "Hand Job". I always wanted one. My kid is racing CX now. He'd probably appreciate them... |

As if I don't have enough projects going (bikes, cars, house, etc.) I decided it was time to build out my Tom Kellogg frame. I've had it for several years. I was finally able to make contact with Tom and, luckily, he has extensive records on his frames. Reynolds 531SL tube set, Hayden investment cast crown, RGF bulge-forged BB shell, Campagnolo 1010A dropouts, and Prugnat long point lugs. The paint is Bellamy Red. This was frame No. 27 and built in 1977.
The frame is in well-used condition but is straight with original paint and decals. I've pretty much removed a couple of nasty handlebar dents on the top tube. So my plan is to build it with components in similar well-used condition to the frame so it looks like the survivor that it is. Probably going to try to find a complete 1977ish bike and transfer the parts as opposed to trying to find everything individually. Campy, Suntour, Dura-Ace? Not sure. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1733963846.jpg |
I like that you've decided to use the original paint. Can't wait to see the build up. (And I'll won't be surprised if you find a nice vintage bike in your size to steal the components from, so we can expect another build somewhere down the road!!)
