Started making Team Pros in mid 1970s, stopped in mid 1980s.
Here is appx serial number/production sequence YEAR Frame No 1976 500 1977 1200 1978 1900 1979 2800 1980 3500 1981 4100 1982 4900 1983 5500 1984 6300 1985 6900 1986 7700 Closed 8300 I'm not sure how many were 753 but quite a lot. Raleigh was owned by TI, TI also owned Reynolds, Raleigh got exclusive use of 753 for a number of years - so I have read. This bike is 753. Based on the (original) decal and the drilled dropouts (drilled on 753 frames, not on 531), and the weight of the complete bike. The best way to verify is to weigh the stripped frame, but I didn't want to strip it down. Quote:

Saw these TT bikes at a swap meet today. Raleigh/Huffy Olympic bikes. Supposedly found at the Huffy factory when it closed. Handlebars looked like magnesium. Single shifter.

John's Team Pro has re-ignited my interest in these bikes and I came across this recently: 1979 Raleigh SBDU Framesets Catalog/Order Form I remember the 80s versions that could be purchased at the dealer. But apparently, Team bikes had to be custom-ordered in the 70's and built by Raleigh's Special Bicycle Development Unit.

I still haven't ridden mine more than a mile - been traveling, plus a rainy April. Hoping to go for a 50 mile ride this weekend. |
OK, here is my American stallion I have been riding since 1992, fits like a glove.
Its a Dave Levy custom titanium 73/73 frame 56 cm with all campie. other than a newer derailler it is all original since 92. Still ride sew up tires. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1398787875.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1398787922.jpg Its been dumped a few times since new but shows no signs of fatigue or stress anywhere on the frame. it weighs about 1/2 pound heavier than my youngest son's carbon fiber pinnarello. |
Anyone remember the re-badged Pony shoe the Ti-Raleigh team wore? I remember seeing a picture of a team time trial and they all had the very distinctive Pony stripe in bright yellow from some French imported magazine. Unusual for that time since most shoes were Adidas, or sidi and were typically black without flashily designs. It caught my attention that's for sure.

That Ti baby needs some Deltas!
|
No, No, No deltas, would add too much weight and effect the aerodynamic properties:D
Totally like the side pulls, simple just like the lever adjusters but back then all that syncro stuff was not that good. My wife rides a vitus aluminum frame with the first gen syncro campie and it works but at that time shimano had the better system and I couldn't even think of not having a bike in my house without campie at that time. |

Finished building up this one just before the winter. But fatbikes are not just for winter and snow.
