New business ideas

I have been toying with a new business ideas lately and wanted some input.

When I was doing M&K day to day operations I had countless people wanting custom work done but I never had the time to do it. I am considering doing some ads in Excellence and some other outlets to advertise repair of rare parts including Magnesium, TI , Stainless, 4130, Brass etc.

I do have a few jobs lined up including some brass headlights from a 1910 Maxwell but would like to do some more work. I have time and ability to do most anything but was looking for some input. It does not need to be Porsche Specific but more then happy to taylor to porsche folks.

Any thoughts?

British pot metal restoration for Aston Martins, Jags, would be a place to start. Tail light bright work notably.

don't place too many ads at once, as you might get swamped

start in one geographic area or type of material or marque and then expand outward

one specific thing for Porsches would be a light wt. but strong engine carrier

Good Luck!

Advertise in Hemmings. You won't need to go anywhere else.

I've thought about doing one-off fabrications of plastic tail lights. Lots of classic cars or expensive cars where they want lots of hundreds  for a measly tail light lense where a fabricator could heat bend cut, holes in the right places. I used to be into the idea of working with plastics but never got around to it.

I use to be the primary owner of M&K for those that dont know. I started the business and many years later now am a back seat driver and have nothing to do with day to day business. I do subcontracting of R&D and custom products only. I still interact with Brian on a weekly bases but the new business idea is more just a way to get back into mainstream business but concentrating on restoration repair welds and possibly making new parts and or fabricate something for a client. not looking for 80 hours of work a week but rather 10 hours a week type of stuff if it grows so be it. I have over 20 years of welding/ fabricating experience specializing in avaition and of course Porsches and looking to take care of the next niche out there. CNC parts would also be a possibility. I will stay away from plasitic parts as that is not my area. but would really like to do stuff like someone has a muffler and they want different tail pipes no matter what brand or they want new heat exchangers made etc. thats what I am thinking
