Seat Covers
I have a 2005 F150 Super Crew 4x4. The truck has primarily been a tow vehicle, farm truck and a worker: It has patina, desert pin stripping, etc. It isn't going to be sold, but I don't want it to become too much of a beater.
Summers in Maryland make me sweat like Rosanne Barr on Jeopardy so the drivers seat has some issues. The seats are leather-ish and worn. When I search "F150 seat covers" the amount of vendors selling what look to me to be excellent alternatives is impressive. To help me pick a winner, does any one here have any direct experience? Neoprene, cloth, etc? I can do the hunter cloth or tan, no matter to me. Appreciate any advice. |
I've got a similar vintage F150 that's needing some TLC on the driver's side seat too. Last year I needed my bass boat seats recovered, so I found a local "custom hot rod" shop that does all kinds of upholtsery too...cars, boats, etc. and they did a fantastic job (one day turnaround to boot). While there, I inquired about my truck seats...he stated they'd remove the seats and properly recover them for $150 each (in one day)...I think that's the direction I'm going instead of aftermarket "seat covers" (although I have no idea of what you've been looking at). Just throwing that out there for ya...

Get seat covers that are washable (in the washing machine)...

About 5 years ago I bought seat covers for my truck from a vendor on Ebay. Since I was going to be using it for some work, I wanted something not too expensive to cover the leather seats. These were a gray, pretty heavy duty material. Seemed like a sort of cropped mohair finish, and they slipped on with Velcro fasteners. They are still in almost new condition except for dirt smudges from use. I don't remember the cost but it was inexpensive. Later I emailed the vendor asking why the cost was so low, & he answered he buys them new from the company that makes them. The reason they were cheap was most of them were returns from custom orders & other reasons & the company just wanted to off them. They are great as far as wear is concerned & I'd look for similar is I needed to buy again.
