I went to pick up BBQ today. Both times that I got in the interstate with a posted speed of 75 (avg speed 80), I was behind someone that was trying to merge at 50.

media who gather information and then report it as substantial information through the results of "surveys" and phone polls.

its laughable, Now who in their right mind takes time out of their busy day to fill in "online surveys" or participate in "phone polls" ?

I know that for myself Im pretty quick to hang up if I get a robocall to answer a "phone poll or to click away from any sort of " online poll"

the results are only polling people who do, which is a very thin slice of th total whoi were bothered.

whay does "media " rely on it so often?
its a cheap way to present inacurate info under some assumption that polls are accurate.

real polls happen in privacy at polling stations.
rant off,, ;-)

I think you'd be surprised. I suspect lots of folks take online polls. There are enough idiots out there to fill online polls with idiot data.

People in stores who take up a ridiculous amount of space for just one person and their shopping cart.

Not only that - they are usually the ones who take longer to make their purchasing decisions.

Probably the ones who come up to intersections and insist on waiting at least 30 seconds before proceeding - after they look both ways about 10 times......

This is a way of life when living in Florida. Getting old is a ***** but it happens to all of us.

The clown offender was younger than me.

Then a 101st Airborne vet - who is older than me - came by - grabbed his creamer - and remarked "Hey you should try this one - White Chocolate and Raspberry!"

So I put my Mocha/Peppermint back and took the one that he recommended. And thanked him that......and for his service!

He was with his wife and all 3 of them (he, his wife, and their cart) were never placed anywhere noticeably "in anyone's way".

Age doesn't have a damn thing to do with it, my friend. It's being raised the right way and having some semblance of a brain. :D

You should see the aisle’s at Costco. If an aisle is blocked with a cart my wife will move it out of the way and gives the offending shopper the stink eye

Why do I need an app for everything?

Last night - late night online shopping. I found something I like on Mercari. I don't have a Mercari account. Shouldn't be that hard to set one up, should it?

I created an account. Had to set an extra special super long password.
Of course, I had to add a credit card, or Venmo. I don't have Venmo.
I had to add an email account. I used my throwaway account. They can spam that all they want.
Then they needed a phone number. Okay, I used my google voice number. It provides some level of filtering of spam calls.
I was able to now buy the item. Except the seller listed two of the same item, but different sizes, and asked to message him to indicate which one you want.

I clicked send message, entered my message, clicked send. Verification required. What?
I need to add a government ID to send a message. There's no way to do that in the web site, you have to download the app to your phone. Kind of hard to load an app to a google voice account, so I opened a help ticket asking how to verify on the website. They did respond quickly, saying "just use the app". I told them I had a flip phone, what's the workaround? Apparently there is none.
Fine, cancel my order, cancel my account.
Sir, just go on the app, click blah blah blah. I don't have your app, and I'm not going to load it.

I'm in limbo right now. There's a pending charge on my credit card, waiting on the seller to acknowledge the cancellation of the order. I can just bet, even if the order is allowed to be cancelled, Mercari will keep their ~$2.00 fee on the sale.
Bastages.

Maybe freeze your credit card account for now?

As an aside to this, I hate lining up before Costco opens, in a line at DMV, grocery store or anywhere else.

My BCT Drill Sergeant's voice echos in my brain and I want to shout it out. "Tighten up this line people! I want to see nothing except butts to nuts! Make the person in front of you your friend!".

I think the whole covid/6 foot crap ruined it for standing in line.

Trader Joe’s is probably one of the smallest grocery stores in the area, crowded too.
But what really chaps my balls are those losers who supplement their incomes by suing people. You know, the ones who target people with nice cars in a parking lot, and manage to get as someone is backing out of a space. The only thing worse are those POS attorneys don’t just take the BS cases but encourage the loses to keep doing it.

I hate paint on my good screwdrivers. Every time someone tries to paint something around here they ignore the free can openers the paint store provides and head to my shop to get a screwdriver. They inevitably get paint all over it and leave it lying around somewhere until it’s good and dry. I like to take care of my tools. I keep them clean and put them away when I’m finished. Other people help themselves to them and show them no respect.

When the alert system wakes you up at 4:55 AM to advise you that it will be hot that day.

rockfan4 06-29-2025 06:24 PM

Why can't people just post the cash price for a vehicle?

It's obvious the ones listed for $500 or $1000 or $2500 are listing the amount now, but this is a new one. Find a car for a reasonable price.

The fine print

Quote:

Shown prices are the amount to be financed after a 15% to 40% down payment and is subject to qualification criteria.. It is not cash price.

Oh man, don’t get me started.
The guy we bought our latest house from was showing me how great it is to be able to open the garage door with the phone app. “So, what do you do if you don’t have your phone in the car?” The guy looked at me like I had lost my mind. I noticed there was no keypad outside the door either.
I get along just fine with a door opener in the car and a keypad by the door. I don’t want an app. What do you do when you get the “This app is no longer supported,” message?

(Nothing to do with this topic as presented, or commened herein thus far)

People who comment on a thread with questions already answered, usually in the post immediately above the one they are just now creating.

It's one thing when a thread is dozens of pages, or comprises several parallel or divergent filaments, but not when it's still confined to a single page. Read! It's doesn't take that long. 😉

Here's one that comes up with me every week it seems.

I work in building with elevators. It is generally the common rule that those waiting to get on the elevator wait for people to get out of the cab before walking into the cab. Simple, but many people don't seem to understand this.

rockfan4 07-29-2025 04:37 AM

People who don't know when bad weather is coming, or don't care.

It's garbage day today, the truck usually comes around 9:00am. Plenty of time to put your cans out in the morning. We also had a storm come through last night, just after midnight. 60mph+ winds. This morning, garbage everywhere up and down the street from cans put out last night. It looks awesome.

There's a couple limbs down between my house and the neighbor to the south of me. They're about 6" in diameter. It took out a portion of the fence, but not enough that my hound dog can get to their chickens. I'm going to wait a bit before I get out the chainsaw.
