What advice do you give to ....

newbies on this forum.
A few do's and don'ts I have come up with:

-If a member is asking for help with his clapped out 500k mile beater don't tell him to take it out to the back forty and shoot it and then buy a brand new car. We recusitate everything here even the owners. Egos not so.
-Don't use plain English language. Pelican forum has its own special language - acronyms and sammyisms ad nauseam. See Azanady(spelling?) has started a list.
School me is a prime example of no child left behind.
-Grow a thick skin.Expect to be shot down regularly.
-Read your entry before you post it.
-Keep politics in the barf forum - oops parf forum.
-And good luck. You are going to need it.

I went to boarding school and, as the unwritten rules dictates, took a fair beating in the beginning. I had to endure it - so shall all the other newbies.

A good sense of humor comes in handy too..

Search - you're not the first person to have an oil leak in your 911SC
Educate yourself - read the forums, read the how-to articles, read the FAQs
The forum is not a text message - proper use of the English language will go a LONG way
Details - don't ask for help with your car without posting up details on the problem and your car
Post your location - there's probably a Pelican nearby that will help you for beer

Been hanging out here for 12 years now...it's been a nice visit . "Thick skin required"...yep! Got yer back "when the chips are down"...that too! We were all newbies once upon a time...I started visiting about the time one of our moderators was facing the firing squad...ancient history now. "Our" bark is worse than the bite...

Learn to filter the BS from facts. If you ask a question there may be different opinions on what to do. You will have to figure out which solution is from a knowledgeable person and which is from a idiot.

Don't be Canadian!

They are just too darn nice! I don't trust them! How can a whole country survive without hubris and animosity? It is not natural I tell you!

You might mention 2 of our primary exports to you folks south of the line; cold fronts & hockey players.
