Top Gear Finally Back
great anticipation all month long. Would it be inline with the Vietnam Special, or India?
Turns out a little of both. Pagani Huayra, standard fair piece, love the art deco meets steampunk interior of that thing. Bentley Continental, classic stuff, could have been better. Jeremy's P45, saag paneer without any cheese. But the season could be a good one from the looks of the intro montage. Great to have it back.

Loved this ep.
The P45 with the dragons den/shark tank pitch was great.

I hate the us version. It sucks. All the scenarios are planned and contrived. It's not funny. The host stink. Motor week is more entertaining. And that's not good.

I just can't make myself like the US version. As others have said, the banter between the hosts is entirely scripted and not at all spontaneous or believable. Their segments are similarly regimented. The natural chemistry between the TG UK hosts is a big part of what makes that show great and you can't fake it. The failure of TG USA is one of casting, they were doomed from the start.
Good first episode for the UK version, I loved the new Pagani and the Bentley rally was excellent as well.

If you think the US version is crap you should checkout the Aussie version
Truly embarrassing. The UK version is all about Jeremy. If he ever left the show they'd be in big trouble.

I cannot get into the US version, although I do think the new commercials are funny. I love me some Richard Hammond... If only he were taller....

I'd say any of the three would be tough to replace. They all play their role on the show, and the constant unrehearsed banter is a big part of what makes it great. It's like three buddies talking about cars and giving each other crap. But yeah, Clarkson is obviously the star of the three.

Top Gear US has had a few good episodes. I enjoyed the episode where they bought a used car and tried to sell it on air. Adam is the best part of the show. Rutledge seems to be a car guy but I just don't like watching him. Tanner comes off as a putz most of the time.
UK version top gear is lightening in a bottle. Impossible to recreate so why try. Just another UK show that gets lost in translation similar to Coupling. The US version of Coupling used the same dialogue word for word as the UK version but was not funny. |

US version has no natural leader. The fat guy is a goof, the guy from New York is neither funny nor a car-guy, and the race driver is aloof and above it all.
I'm thinking the BBC knows exactly what it's doing giving us a watered down product.

One name Clarkson.....he is Top Gear. Without him ever the UK version would suck.
I'm clueless as to why the 3 nobs on the US version were chosen. They shouldn't be on TV in any capacity. Tanner can drive, but he has the personality of a door stop. The other two, I don't even know how they ever got a casting call. I would have started with Adam Corolla, and worked in guest hosts to find the right mix. "I'm thinking the BBC knows exactly what it's doing giving us a watered down product" ahhh......that makes sense. Last edited by romad; 01-30-2013 at 02:03 PM.. |

Season premiere of Top Gear (UK) was on last night (BBC America.) Was a great episode. Taking a Bentley on a Rally course was suicidal. Looked like it just had all seasons on it. Jeremy in the library...I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. That is how proper television is done.
