Very tasteful interior... so many motorhomes seem pretty blingy on the inside these days.

Some of the big ones have real marble, real floor tile. You must be hauling around a few thousand lbs in bling weight.

We had some friends visit last weekend. They came down in their 36' RV. He bought it a couple of years ago when they found a dealer the bank had ordered to reduce their inventory because the bank wanted some of their money out of it. They got a really good deal. I thought it was a diesel, but he told me it was a 10 cyl. Chevy gas (industrial engine ?) and got around 9 mpg. They have a ball with it driving all over & staying wherever they want, when they can find a place that will take something that big. They've taken it to Alaska and own a house in B.C. they go to during the summers. Hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

The V10s are Ford. Very common RV chassis.

Eric, that's what I was thinking at the time but didn't want to cross examine him about it. Are they the usual 6.xL Fords? Seems a bit small if it is, since he told me it was a 12 ton chassis for a 36 ft. But he could have been off on that one too. He's a retired attorney & not too mechanically savy.

Yes, they are the same 6.8L V10 found in Super Duty pickups and the Ford E series vans and cutaways. They've got plenty of power, at least from 2006-up.

Geez - did someone get a promotion recently? ;)

But seriously, that's so nice, you can stay in it as a residence. You can skip having a summer house in the Northern US and just hook up anywhere! You really should think about it.

I wish I was ready to hit the road.

A guy that I used to work with had a permanent home in OK, as his wife and daughter refused to leave their job and school. He dropped about $60k on a pretty nice 5th-wheel RV and parked it in an RV park, it was his home during the week. He always said it was much better than renting an apartment. We of course joked that he lived in a van down by the river.;)

Nice get, Hugh. You're clearly getting yourself into retiree mode. Excellent. :)

GWN7 02-24-2013 04:46 AM

Nice score. As you are using it for business for the next 5 years I guess you can write off a portion of the cost and expenses over that time. That's what I did with my class A. Hauling the boat with my pickup and a 8' slide in camper I was getting 12-13 mpg. I dropped to 9-10 mpg with the MH but ended up with 20' more useable space.

Nice! So much adventure lies ahead!

herr_oberst 02-24-2013 05:43 AM

That'd look great with an Aston Martin hooked up to the back!

VINMAN 02-24-2013 06:13 AM

Very cool Hugh Congrats!!

tevake 02-24-2013 06:28 AM

Congrats Hugh! I see some cool travel adventures coming up for you.
Like the size and interior. How does it drive?

Cheers Richard

Excellent

I would not want to be on the wrong side of the table from Mrs R on a deal.

I bet you could get people to pay to see her argue with my old man though, I know I would. That thing is just the perfect size. The bigger ones just can't go a lot of places. What do you plan to tow as the escape pod? Either the Camry or the 911 on a dolly would be very serviceable I would imagine.

Joe Bob 02-24-2013 06:42 AM

Hugh has a good one in Mrs. R......just sayin'.

Noah930 02-24-2013 06:47 AM

Congrats, Hugh.

So when are we going for the maiden Pelican road trip? :D
