Do Not Call Registry Phishing Scam

url]https://www.donotcall.gov/register/RegConf.aspx?E5E6BDF7-4EE6-4174-AB88-92A5BEF7FAC0[/url]

Funny how just after a thread dealing with violations of the Do Not Call list, I got an email from a scammer alerting me to complete my registration with the National Do Not Call Registry by clicking on an enclosed link. BE AWARE!

I went directly to the National website to verifiy my registration and written in red, at the top of the web page, was a warning of just this scam, though it was referred to through phone calls rather than emails. Man, they're everywhere!

If dishonest people put this kind of effort into real, honest work, the world would be a much better place

Very strange that a .gov domain is used...scammers don't have access to said domain. That's usually a dead giveaway--a government sponsored service/message utilizing a .com domain address instead of the .gov they should be using.

Update:

I just found out that a good friend had initiated the registration for me without my knowledge, after having a conversation with my wife regarding the number of calls we've been getting. So, apparently, the email was legitimate and that would explain the domain name in the link.

Sorry for the false alarm, but the warning of scammers using the phone to get information is real and on the government website. Can't be too careful these days.

Thanks for the update. Best way to battle these arseholes is word of mouth.

Yep - it sure does! I'll give it out as my home number for all future promotions that I can find!

The do not call list is useless anyway. When you make a complaint it tells you that they do not take any action against the offender the information is collected in case local law enforcement takes action in the future. Just another scam by our elected officials to make us think they are working for us.

Thanks guys. Boy, try and do a good deed and look what happens! Oh well, as long as none of you are telemarketers or heavy breathers I should be o.k. I've since deleted the link.

Thanks again for having my back.
