forget about the satelite, that's easy to fix... that freakin' thing looks like an eye sore in the making.

Jeremy, you're right, I've made a mountain out of a molehill, but I try to be decent to people, and I don't like threats of a lawsuit when I ask people if they want to try and be decent...

This house is a McMansion by any definition, huge house, ZERO yard. it blocks out the sky, he knows it, and now he's being a dick to boot.
I'll try to post something interesting in the future.

Put up a flag pole. Sat dish at top and a fake video camera pointed at the nice builders house.

I'm mostly just having fun, it's quite an interesting thread!

My neighborhood is going through the "McMansion" phase right now. Lots of uproar about setbacks, "Conservation Overlays", etc.

I've been boxed in, the house on each side of me which used to be (1250+900), identical to mine, are both 4,000 S.F. + now. Some of these folks are making some big fugly American houses, too. It is sort of a shame.

Easy!

Get rid of overpriced satellite TV. Watch shows you like on the Internet on your own schedule. Do worthwhile things the rest of the time.

I haven't had "TV" in 5 years, and I'm not really sure what I'm missing. Payments? Commercials? Reality shows? No thanks.

Oh, and your neighbor does sound like an idiot.

Not that I'm recommending this, but if he doesn't see the error of his ways a simple yard assortment of plastic and overgrown grass will surely stress his potential sale.

The flip side of this kind of thinking is that you would be hurting your own property value by doing anything that would bring down his. He is actually doing you a favor. He is adding money to your resale.

Is television really that important?

Regardless, I think a huge wall painted baby-poo yellow is part of any comprehensive solution.

In a Feud of the Rich, One Man Is Flush With Victory

This all took place couple of houses down from a friend of mine.

All started over some outdoor lighting.

Obviously money can't buy class.

Glad you are coming to your senses here. he didn't do anything wrong, you did.
There are solutions but it's not his problem.
I don't like McMansions either, but I keep it in perspective. Their lot, their house, as long as they follow the rules.

I can tell ya one worse:
I like in a neighborhood that is very clean and well-kept. Landscaping is very nice, no eye sores. until about 6 months ago.

A house about 6 lots down was rented out to some people. Not sure how many but there are 4 cars in the driveway and 2 on the street.
First thing they did was put a metal bench swing in the middle of the front yard, and stop watering or mowing. Oh and they still have their christmas lights up.
Looks like freaking Fontana.

I'd take a McMansion over trailer trash in the neighborhood any day.

Gogar has posted my situation, exactly, except it happened during the last boom. We now have lost half of the sunlight in our back yard, and all of our privacy. The thing that ticked me off the most was that these huge houses were all spec houses, build by a "developer" who was bankrolled by investors. He/they had no concern for the neighborhood or neighbors as they never intended to live here. They built, changed the complexion of the neighborhood, and left.

The only bright spot was that the "developer" over extended and when the crash came, he lost his shirt. Karma.

I wanna say thanks to everyone for chiming in. This is one of those deals that without the Pelican crowd, I might have just been horked off forever about what is essentially progress.
The contractor is a dick in my estimation, he could have done a lot of things differently, but like many have said, his property, his choices (as long as he stays within the rules.)

I know some of you think I was being petty or small minded; possibly, probably true, but that's why I asked for some input, and it's been very helpful - especially the folks who reminded me that no one wins when neighbors feud.

I wouldn't screw up his sale completely but maybe a couple days of "lawn art" and blasting music during one of his open houses might make him think next time, before being a dick right off the bat.

Then you can always clean up the yard and turn the music off

Thanks to this board, I don't feel the need anymore to call OSHA and ask if this guy should be tied off. I'm sure he's well within the regs and working in a safe manner, and besides, getting OSHA involved would just slow down the construction. (I doubt that he is much higher than 30 feet.)

That would be the case here in Canada to a certain extent, yeah, but I don't think the US system generally works that way.

Even in Canada cost awards rarely if ever cover a person's entire expense of litigation.

Cheers

Pro - your neighborhood comps will go up if/when this house sells.
Con - your privacy and visuals are ruined.

Is there space on your side to grow some tall trees (juniper) to partially soften the view?
