Knife restoration
I have a few boxes of items from a grandfather I never knew that I just received recently from a trustee. A lot of medals, photos, other military items that I'm trying to sort out. But I found this knife that appears in several photos and I wonder if I should keep it the way it is or restore it by polishing it up and cleaning.
On the blade it says it's an "EGW Knife" which from some googling appears to be pretty commonly aquired by soldiers during WW2. That being said I don't think or care if it has any monetary value, but would you "restore" this? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368063311.jpg |
Personally, I'd leave it how it is and have a shadow box made for it and a few of the pics.

Don't "restore" it. Leave it as is........

Never polish it!!!!!

nope

Thanks for the suggestions, I like the "shadow box" idea. I have a few really pretty medals as well that I need to research first. Having no military background I need to get this paperwork looked at.

Sounds like you have the makings of a really nice tribute

As for maintaining, drop a few drips of clp on a cotton cloth and lightly rub it on the metal
|
I would sharpen it and use it.

Yes, prior to last week I didn't have any knowledge of that side of family. No one was around to ask. It's like solving a mystery.
