In the case of the paralegal in the UK that wound up my Mother's estate yes. She said the whole process would take about 6 months. By Xmas it was not finished but she sent my sister and I a significant advance. A month later we got the balance.
I thought that was very thoughtful so I sent her enough pounds so that would give her and her GF a nice meal.:) If it was a lawyer doing the work likely not as they charge more. Looks had nothing to do with it but she was good looking!:)

After a favorable outcome a few years back, we took the entire legal team out for a very nice dinner. I think everybody really enjoyed the evening.

The best tip a lawyer can receive is the referral of a new client from a happy client.
