Yes, but it does not cover the rounded off bolts, busted knuckles or the projects going on hold because you snapped your tool off at 9:30 pm.

"I authorize the purchase around $50k worth of tools per year at work and I never approve anything made by snap-on. Overpriced hype. There are many brands of tools that are just as good for half the money."

Sammy, have you ever used Snap-On tools?
I'll admit Joe Schmoe doesn't need them to work on his Murray mower this weekend. But a case can be made for judging a mechanic by the tools in his box.
But I guess if you have to buy their tools they're not traditional mechanics.

I spent too much time in this great nations military to be a snob about anything. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good cigar and beverage now and then, but my usual drink is a Labatts and a inexpensive hand rolled cigar. If the hand rolled cigar makes me a snob, than that is too bad as I get them cheaper than machine made cigars. I am all about making my money go as far as I can.

careful, they are knuckle busters.

You'll quickly find that you'll be using that warranty often. I wouldn't trust those hand tools for anything requiring serious torque. You'll either round off the fastener when it slips off, of the socket and wrench will come apart / won't stay together.

I've had my craftsman tools for well over a decade now, well before the era of Harbor Freight..

HF is good for shop rags, cheap screwdrivers, C clamps, cutting wheels are good, and breaker bars. I actually like those :)

I tried some HF impact tools once. LOL a disaster, put a nice ding in GF's Pilot when I pulled back rattle gun and the socket went airborne....

She was pissed.

I will never buy another craftsman ratchet. Sloppy, loose, poorly made knuckle busters. (Didn't used to be that way). Crawl under a car with a craftsman ratchet, you'll be crawling out for a better tool in just a few minutes. I have a 3/8 HF ratchet that does a better job than a my craftsman, (but my 3/8 snap-on is the go-to tool.)

It's not a matter of snobbery, it's a matter of utility.

I'll say this: Snappy makes some unique stuff that only they have. Nowadays they may be the only tools made in USA.

I like Snap on socket wrenches, except when trying to remove the socket with a greasy hand. Sucks.

Discerning is correct. I don't eat fast food or watch tv. Life is too short for that. I do wear Costco clothes and make similar value purchases

tweezers74 05-22-2013 08:30 PM

I am a snob when it comes to snobs. ;)

pbs911 05-22-2013 11:40 PM

Hate to say it, but if anyone cares what anyone thinks about what they purchase, they are a snob. I particularly like the comment stating the guy is not a snob, but he has a weakness for Ferrari. This, and being a snob, is not a good thing. It is an ********* thing. I just don't understand why anyone cares what someone else thinks about the type of coffee, car, clothes . . . that anyone else buys.

RANDY P 05-23-2013 12:19 AM

There are those who appreciate finer detail. THe very fact we are all are / were Porsche owners shows that we have an appreciation for driving, moreso than say a Honda owner.

Face it, when you turn on the TV and see the sheeple getting turned on throwing a Ford Fusion around some cones in a parking lot, do you say to yourself:

"Wow! How awesome that FOrd must be FUN!! "

Or you just laugh, shut it off, and go to the garage and stare at the purpose-built machine in there that is intended for less than 1% of the motoring population who can actually use it?

"Snob" is usually an accusation thrown around by people who don't appreciate detail in things, nor care.....

Of course let's not confuse"poseur" it's a different thing as well- owning a high dollar item without having a clue about it. We all know those exist too..

I am a man of wealth and taste...so what does that tell ya?

Quality is the name of the game, not price. I wear Luis Vuiton, Hermes, Lanvin, Emilio Zenga, Armani, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Robert Talbott, Valentino and Hugo Boss Ties...

recycled sixtie 05-23-2013 07:39 AM

I associate snobs more with people than with things.I was born in the UK and when I was there the snobbishness was associated with class the people came from. I left the UK many years ago and don't notice the overt snobbishness in North Amer. as much. In a way there is because of the putting down of people who live in trailers(the so called trailer trash). The snobbishness may come from the poseurs(as you call them) some of whom call the 911 the real Porsche. I don't get caught up in that.

FLYGEEZER 05-23-2013 08:09 AM

Ha ha. Trying? Not really. I mean it. I think the term "snob" defines a person who has particular tastes but the difference is their attitude. nothing wrong with having distinct tastes from others but when you judge other people or try to push your tastes on other people, that bugs me. Then you are a snob. Why convince somebody else to like red just because you like it? That's what I am saying.

Uh oh. I have both a Porsche and a Honda.

techweenie 05-23-2013 10:45 AM

Really? You put up a thread on a Porsche forum asking if people here are snobs?

Have you even read how other cars are referenced here? And the clincher is how the air cooled snobs look down on any liquid cooled Porsches.

Yeah, most of us are snobs. And that includes me.

scottmandue 05-23-2013 10:50 AM

Definitely a sushi snob...

Won't buy or eat supermarket sushi...

Drives my wife crazy...

If the chef doesn't cut it, make it, and hand it to you it is not "fresh".

Sorry

But even those, I keep covered/garaged as much as possible, never take to car shows, never talk about, and keep as low profile as possible.

So why have the cars? Don't mean to call this out, but I guess I've seen these types of comments on the Pelican boards over the past decade and it's always confusing. Obviously, the people that own these types of high-end cars are the types of people that own these types of cars or they wouldn't own them. I'm not saying you should park them on your lawn on display, but I don't see any harm in sharing the car enthusiasm with like-minded people. And no, I don't wear P-car T-shirts or stuff like that, but I do think it's cool if you do and you're enjoying the ownership experience.

Oh, and I think you don't like "high-end," but instead "very high-end": Gibson, Ducati, Porsche, FERRARI....:)

In defense of good sir McLovin...

My friend bought a Datsun 1600 roadster, joined the club, went to events, showed it off to his friends.

I bought a 944, stuck it in the garage and drove the snot out of it on the weekends... didn't really mention it or brag to any of my friends of family.

Just different strokes...

I would own a Ferrari if I could, I just am cursed with filet mignon taste and a McDonald's budget. ;)

No defense of McLovin needed - I see his point. I just find the topic interesting since this is a "Are you a snob" thread. This, "I own these things, but I don't want anyone to know I own these things because they might get the wrong impression of me" views are fascinating. There might be a little snobbery when those same folks (And just to be clear, I'm not saying this is McLovin's view) look down on those that are actually out enjoying their stuff. I'm not talking about the bragging, in-your-face type with the "2HOT4U" plates - there's always that component. I mean folks who enjoy the car hobby and like to share it with others.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not too into events, and clubs and such, but I can see how it's fun. After 12 years of owning Porsches I've finally joined the PCA club and am having a good time. :)

yetibone 05-23-2013 04:05 PM

I'm an air snob. I like mine with just over 20% oxygen, and about 78% nitrogen.

I am a snob. I'm extremely judgmental. I don't understand why people f-up the one life they are given so badly.

I looked at those.. But they were a bit small for me, my new 787 comes in next month... ;)

Bill Douglas 05-23-2013 10:50 PM

If a snob is showing off to other people - no I'm not one. Everything I do, I do to make me happy and/or my GF plus the dogs and cats, yeah, maybe my sister, next you guys. But F the general public..

Dansvan 05-24-2013 08:09 AM

I've often thought a bit about this. As I and my family are rolling down the highway in our 1978 Sportscoach motorhome (totally refurbished but still very 70's looking, paid for) pulling our home built 4 place trailer with 4 mid 90's to mid 00's Honda atvs on it, paid for, heading to a recreation destination. We see others in the latest diesel truck pulling a huge toy hauler with the latest and greatest quads etc. Is their weekend going to be any better than ours because of the price of their stuff? Or are the experiences going to be the same? I don't look on them with envy, but I have sure been looked down on a time or two. Bear in mind credit would allow us to have the latest and greatest, we just choose to live off pay as you go. I do enjoy the latest technology and often tell myself in a couple of years when that whatsit starts coming down in price it's going to be great. Is the p-car owners track day experience so much better than a Datsun owners? Or is it perceived value we attatch to things?

flipper35 05-24-2013 12:31 PM

I am. I dont do trendy, especially burnt bean $5 a mini cup of coffee trendy and generally have a lower opinion of people that do trendy because it is trendy. Now if it is good and happens to be trendy that's a different reason.

Burnin' oil 05-24-2013 01:44 PM

I'd be a snob if I had anything to be a snob about, but I think I am the person that allows others to feel superior.

126coupe 05-24-2013 01:48 PM

wine snob, food snob

Captain Ahab Jr 05-24-2013 02:00 PM

I'm a lightweight snob.

Most peoples idea of a lightweight car build comes no where near to what I consider to be lightweight.

Sorry I can't help it as its just a result of my upbringing

Cajundaddy 05-27-2013 03:54 PM

snob
/snäb/
Noun
A person with an exaggerated respect for high social position who dislikes people or activities regarded as lower-class.
A person who believes that their tastes in a particular area are superior to those of other people: "a wine snob".

Ok there might be a snobbish gene in there somewhere. I suppose I am sort of a Warren Buffett type snob. I tend to buy quality and good value and hold it for a very long time. I shoot for 90% of the performance at 10% of the price. I really try not to judge others choices but sometimes it just squirts out... My bad. And I drive a used Boxster :D

Coffee: Appreciate a good bold cup that I brew at home, never buy Starbucks.
Beer: Simple tastes but I do prefer European Pils.
Wine: Appreciate a complex $100 bottle of French wine but would never buy one. Lot's of quality Calif wines for $10-$15.
Cars: Porsche, Lexus, Toyota, Chevy that I buy used.
Guitars and amps: American made, tubes, always bought used and cheap.
Consumer electronics: Apple, Yamaha, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung

911SauCy 05-27-2013 04:31 PM

Cigar Snob. :)

ckelly78z 05-27-2013 06:12 PM

I guess i'm starting to become a German automobile snob. I have a Porsche, my wife drives a 02 BMW 325ci convertible, my daughter drives a 03 VW Jetta, and my wife's old car....a 97 VW Cabrio is waiting for my 14 year old son, and oh BTW, they are all 5 speeds.

Other than that, I am just a regular Joe who shops for bargains, wears whatever is comfortable, and will eat just about anything and enjoy the experience.

tabs 05-27-2013 08:29 PM
