I'm in remembrance. I lost two in AFG, one in IRQ. Plus the droves before us who gave us our freedom.

God speed!

Heard this somewhere but can't remember where:

We here today vow to those that came before that we won't let those that follow forget what you have sacraficed.

To my military friends, alive and dead, thank you,
I went to the wall in DC and couldn't even make it to touch your names.

"Cover them over with beautiful flowers,
Deck them with garlands, those brothers of ours,
Lying so silent by night and by day
Sleeping the years of their manhood away.
Give them the meed they have won in the past;
Give them the honors their future forcast;
Give them the chaplets they won in the strife;
Give them the laurels they lost with their life."
Will Carleton

Lt. Wesley Ratzel, USAF
MIA. Vietnam.
Wrestled for my Dad in college.
Spent his last night in the states at my families house before his final deployment.
I was 6 and think of him often and with deep respect.
Godspeed Lieutenant.

Baz,

God bless your Dad.
My father was a Korean War vet also.
Unfortunately we lost him to cancer at age 59 in 1993.

Thanks Matt.

And the same for your Dad and Lt. Ratzel.

The military is a family and we all mourn for our brothers and sisters.

At least we both were old enough to know our dad's before their time was up.

God Bless, sir!

Excellent Daniel. It made me shed a tear.

I usually go to Arlington National Cemetary on Memorial Day.. I have a couple of buddies who did not make it back from Somilia, Iraq and Afghanistan and are buried there.... This year I'm in Bagram, Afghanistan as a "government guy working for the DOD"... so I'll tip my hat to the "joes" that come into the DFAC in "full kit" [body armor] - as they grab some take-out chow - before they climb in their MRAPS [MATV variant] and head outside the wire ["Reaper Patrols"]...

rest assured that we have some great young Americans here - hanging it out on the line every day...

+1 on remembering the fallen. Being a gold star kid, I understand the sacrifice too.

So true Kim. Thanks for your post and your duty. Stay safe and tell the "joes" we love them all.

Our extended family lost its first life in Afghanistan recently. My wife's little cousin was killed in April. He was a helicopter pilot.

Thank you to all who have served, continue to serve and will serve that freedom might live.

The local American Legion post dedicated a new memorial Saturday to replace a 70 year old one that was aging and suffered an attack of vandalism.
It was good to see over 100 people there for the ceremony. Sen. Sensenbrenner and the Legion's State Commander both spoke. Local owners of military aircraft did a fly-over as well.
