Maxell poster... very cool. I want one, but I think they usually ask for around a grand - depending on condition. Here's one for $275:

a grand? maybe if it was absolutely pristine, never exposed to oxygen, signed by the artist (along with pics showing him signing it and holding it after being signed), a full moon, feb 29th and a buyer with more money than sense...

I would never pay a grand, but I have seen a few go for that on ebay. They were usually in mint condition though.

McLovin 05-30-2013 03:32 PM

I was looking for one of those a few years ago.

I noticed there was a guy on eBay who had one. An "original from the '80s," but in mint condition, he found it in his closet.

I watched the auction, he sold it.

Then a few weeks later he mysteriously had another one! Sold that one too.

Then he had another one. And another.

That was some closet he had.

Thanks

I could be wrong, what im seeing from the internet is the one I have is a promo, its a poster on a mount, it is rather large, it was framed and I found it with the glass broken, so I took the glass out. Thanks for sharing info with me:)

More on this:

Apparently, the big difference in price is between the "Weaver Gallery" print and the one labeled Maxell. If you have a Weaver Gallery print you could get top dollar. ;)

or the 911 one?

Being a black targa owner I have been after this poster for some time and have compiled some what of a history on them while hunting for them.

There seems to be a few ways that one can get this poster the story seems to go something like this.

The photographer (Steve Steigman) famous for taking the man in the chair photo also took this photo. The add appears in 2 forms, either a 2 page magazine spread (which I own, ill try and get a pic of it to put up) or as a poster both bearing the text "If you've got the watts, we've got the tape". The picture also seems to come in the form you have it, no text and a mate white background. From what I have found this seems to be a set of printings issues by the photographer not the printer who made the poster and was presumably working for Maxell. Note how the print has the photographers name on it in the bottom right corner.

As for price I will say this.

I had the chance to buy the poster recently for 100$ and should have. The price seem to vary greatly although its hard to say what they sell for as many are private or undocumented sales. As stated above people have bought them for less than $10 and they have gone up for as much as $1000. Condition in this case will matter but you seem to have a nice piece. You are correct that they are rare but the fact of the matter is that the only people that want them are primarily Targa owners at this point. Although Porsche art collectors such as my self (Although I own a targa as well) would be interested in this. In terms of price its hard to say, you could list it for $500 and watch it collect dust until someone with a lot of cash to burn comes along, or list it for $50 and watch it disappear. If you are planning to sell, please PM me I would be very interested in it.

Regards
Dave

Why would anyone want this poster? Who listens to music on cassette tapes any more? :D

sprio 01-17-2014 08:42 AM

I do - and reel-to-reel tapes, too!

Josh D 01-17-2014 12:58 PM

I used to buy bricks of those Maxell cassettes back in the '80s to copy friends music. Those were the days!

Porsche targa/maxell poster

I'm looking for a decent copy of the Targa Maxell tape poster. Noting on eBay currently.

BullStandsAlone 12-12-2018 09:38 AM

This needs a reprint. I don't understand why it hasn't been.
