Are these termites?

Mrs. Lee found this in our dinette area and also bedroom while cleaning today. Are these termites or larvae or what?

The good news... I don't think they're termites. (to big)

Maybe moth larva.

Zeke 06-02-2013 05:58 PM

Not termites.

Rick Lee 06-02-2013 06:03 PM

Good news. Thanks. Now, how to get rid of them other than just wiping away with a paper towel?

You need to get your house fumigated by a pro... Or you could use a few of those bomb things in your roof space.

If it was my place I would call a pro.

Porsche-O-Phile 06-02-2013 07:14 PM

Very unlikely - termites can't stand light and are lighter in color - at least the ones I'm familiar with.

look up carpet beetles

HardDrive 06-02-2013 08:06 PM

Look like brown moths to me. Very common. If it gets to be a problem, there are traps you can get that deal with the very effectively. We had them when we first moved into our current home.

BTW, they are commonly referred to as 'pantry moths'.

I disagree.

If they are 'pantry moths', you can easily deal with them by putting in pheromone traps. When the moths hatch, the males are draw to the traps. We used the traps for 2 years, always in the spring. They were very effective. It killed off all of them, and we had a terrible infestation. No nasty chemical residues in the home either.

We got them from this company.

Some countrys would consider that a snack...

Not to worry, just maggots.

This is correct.

Dermestidae (Carpet Beetles)

Rick Lee 06-03-2013 06:36 AM

Aren't carpet beetles really bad?

Aragorn 06-03-2013 06:45 AM

Those look a lot like Weevils. They usually come in either rice or flour and look like little maggots until they change.

Based on the location you found them (dinette) that would be my best guess. Check your packaged rice and flour for the critters. If correct, google weevil eradication.

If those are in the pantry what's in his roof space?

Check all your dry foodstuffs. You will find the source in one of them.

oatmeal is a favorite place for them, also the spice area. they usually leave a silky mess behind where they have been like whitefly silk. They also like parakeet mix.

sammyg2 06-03-2013 09:16 AM

Not termites. We had em a couple years ago. Looked zackly like that. Crunchy little buggers ;)

Check your flour, rice, pancake mix, cerial, etc. Anything they can get into. We keep all that stuff in air-tight containers now and no more bugs.

BlueSkyJaunte 06-03-2013 09:49 AM

They look like bugs to me.

To scorpions, however, they look like food.
