Thick Heart

Been told in the past that I have a thick head, but the echo test today shows that I have a thick heart, hell, some don't even think that I have a heart..

jyl 06-03-2013 08:51 PM

What does "thick heart" mean?

Laneco 06-03-2013 09:24 PM

I don't know what a "thick heart" means.

But I do know you have a GOOD heart, and a KIND heart... So I hope the "thick" thing isn't too bad, because, well Byron, you're kinda one of my favorites. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat1.gif

Good luck, Byron!

Are you talking about hypertrophic cardiomyopathi, Byron?

Porsche-O-Phile 06-04-2013 02:44 AM

Exactly - be careful. Cardiomyopathy is what killed my cat, Charlie a couple of years ago. It was very evident in the autopsy photos that the heart walls were much thicker than they should have been which reduced chamber volume, etc. The vet was 99% sure that's what did him in. No warning either. You should go to a cardiac specialist if you haven't already to fully understand what you're up against here and what if anything can be done. It doesn't sound like it's anything to blow off.

Best wishes, Byron!

Not good... Hope it works out OK.

It seems that studies say most people afflicted with this can lead a normal life which is good. From what you have posted in the past about your health symptoms, they seem to fit this diagnosis. This seems to be just a stumbling block and not a real game changer for you. Follow what your doctor says and read up on what you can and can't do with this. Hope for the best for your future.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Thanks, waiting for the follow up, as to game changer, well, I enjoy competitive sports, have been asked to manage a Regional BMX racing team, which I was looking forward to racing again with the team:(
And remember I live in Florida, besides having nut cases from other states, florida has heat, the other thing I'm told that I will have to avoid :(

Nasty sounding stuff Byron, take care of yourself. That doctor nonsense should be taken seriously.

Thanks,

That I am doing. I gave up drinking in 2008 (my choice, since it was always one of the 1st questions asked) and have modified my life since while the Docs try to get a handle on this (and my COPD) but to take away me being able to actively participate in sports & go out and not only have fun, but work, well, that is kinda hard for me to take..
