Made it to Dermatologist ***Warning Graphic Photos***

Finally got in to see a Dermatologist yesterday! The tumor I had posted about on my left hand about doubled in size from the original pic that I posted. They removed it and said that they needed to send it off to the lab to make sure that nothing was left behind. If they did not get all of it, they will have to remove more flesh deeper into the hand until it comes back negative. The Dr. also checked the rest of my upper body and found 3 more pre cancerous places that she treated. I never really gave skin cancer much thought, pretty much played tennis and other outdoor sports my whole life... Oh well, stay out of the sun if you can guys and gals...

I had a Squamous Cell on my fore arm a bit smaller than that that seemed to appear almost overnight. They cut it out and stitched it up. Another tiny one on my forehead and two other pre-cancerous. All this in about 10 month period.

Stay out of the sun!

Ewwww is right. I'm bald on top. I wear a hat. I went to a skin doctor last year and the first thing he said was "I can tell you wear a hat"

My younger sister is a derm pathologist, (the people who will be examining the tissue that was removed). Needless to say, they believe in sunscreen.

Good luck.

Umm, I get bits cut out too.

Yesterday evening I had a couple of little ones on my face dry iced before they turned into something nastier.

I've been lucky with dermo issues so far (I'm 48). Skin cancers is a huge problem in Aus.

I wish you well and speedy recovery.

Being fair skinned and living in SoCal, the sun is a constant companion and I can always feel its power. I try to control my exposure by wearing hats and staying in the shade when possible but it's nearly impossible to eliminate the danger unless you work inside an office all day, every day. Those people are actually the safest here, unless they spend all weekend on a boat or something.

I have a good friend who just had a melanoma. They think that they caught it in time. She's a beautiful woman from New Zealand who has lived here for many years and she's a sun worshipper with blue eyes and fair skin. Unfortunately, it was not surprising when her number came up for skin cancer.

I worry the most about my hands and arms, I worked outdoors for years and years plus I drive around during the day a LOT. I put tint film on most of my vehicles, this radically reduces UVs, (~99% regardless of darkness of film), but I drive with the windows down a lot and there is the windshield to worry about. Llumar now makes a windshield tint that is completely clear to the eye but cuts UVs drastically. I'm thinking that's the smartest $100 I'll ever spend for my main drivers.

Hey Lee, here is the original picture... The original post, I made in the 2nd Annual Memorial Giveaway thread... It had about doubled in size before having removed, I probably should have taken a picture of it before having it removed but I didn't...

It's really hard to stay out of the sun.... at least for me... I spent the first half of my life out on the tennis courts about 8hrs a day, I spent a good amount of my military days out in the sun and then chose a profession that put me out in the sun everyday as well... I will do what I can to prevent any further damage though... will wear long sleeves while fishing etc.... still don't think that I can do the sunscreen though... I have huge pores and that stuff just feels to greasy...

The best sunscreen is shade. The next best is clothing that truly blocks all UVs. Chemical sunscreens are a distant third, but they are a necessary part of the equation for exposed skin. The sun is no joke.

I can't stand putting greasy sunscreen on my face, it always gets in my eyes and burns like crazy. I finally found an awesome product that is not the least bit greasy but it's not cheap. I'll post a link when I get home to my computer.

That sucks, wish you the best. If there is anything to be taken away from this, it's for everyone to run to the Dr. as soon as you see a tumor growing on your body. Some of them can grow very quickly like this one.

Which type of cancer is it?

Did you ever find the name of that sunscreen? The stuff I've been using has been discontinued for a while now and the Nutrogena spray-on stuff my wife gets always kills my eyes!

Thanks!
Michael
