it was a great trip!!! I love road trips, such good fun with friends. Everything went well, the little Nissan did a heroic job going through the mountains, the car is a bit of mystery, better than expected in many ways. I have to research it a little more. Flares turned out to be steel, has "new" early S front calipers, an early replacement dash, but so early it fits properly and a real 76 Turbo Carrera rear decklid. One disappointment is it only has 7s and 8. So now I have to figure out what to do with it. Light restoration and sell or part it out. Someone put a lot of time and $ into at one point, will depend on the motor more than anything. It also has a "rebuilt salvage" title, so that enters into it too. I suppose I could turn my 73 into a Turbo-look shorthood.
Pics from the trip, a thankfully uneventful adventure. Diner in NY for lunch. Excellent crab cake sandwich. I had HIGH hopes for a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives trip, sadly, most of the food was good, but nothing show-worthy. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417052.jpg Snacks. The cherry soda was like drinking super sweet nyquil or a liquid form of Bank of America cherry lollipops. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417118.jpg Farmland in West Virginia. Pictures at speed can be a challenge. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417179.jpg I have always taken pictures of bridges, have a ton of them. This was a great bridge. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417230.jpg Car in storage since 1997. I had just moved from Chicago to NYC that year. Ages ago now. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417306.jpg Car on the trailer. The Featherlight rocked! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417343.jpg Stopping to get gas, we found this beauty in PA. Took a ton of pics, one of them will be a shirt design for Spring 14. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417389.jpg Love the chain drive! Any idea on year? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417409.jpg My co-pilot for the trip, made it everything what it was. I wish I could take more trips with more friends. Pic here at a steakhouse in PA. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417476.jpg GW Bridge, from here, felt we were already home. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1371417555.jpg |
Cool story, cool find. The car may not be all you were hoping it would be but I'm sure you'll have fun with t anyway. You like wasabi peas too!
|
Great find, Shaun! If you part it, I'm still looking for a 70-75 dash.
Sounds like a great trip. |
Love wasabi peas! :)
We'll have to talk Mark. A quick scan on pick-up, this one looks to be excellent except for a small crack that the speaker to corner of defrost vent opening, but it's old enough that it it still fits perfectly, unlike the new dashes from Porsche. I was planning on putting it in my 73 but when I figure out what I'm doing with everything, I'll send you an email. Hope you are well. |
Thanks, Shaun. I did pick this beauty up a couple of weeks ago. It is a 74, but someone restored it using an 1986 930 complete interior (burgundy) and the rocker extensions, bumpers, doors, deck lid and tail from the same car. It was a great price, so I picked it up and it is heading for 74 RSR IROC status.

Road trips! Man, I got jittery just looking at the selection of road drinks.
Love the Mack truck. Chain drive, right out there in the breeze, no modesty, no regrets! |
