Looking for new tires for a Ford Edge, but posting as a general SUV question.

Kumho? Hankook? Yokohama? I need All-Season.

Anyone bought recently?

Secondly, can the chains match Tirerack prices?

Usually. With Tirerack by the time you factor in S/H plus mounting/balancing it can equal out.

Sometimes Tirerack is the better deal, sometimes not, depends on what you are buying and your local costs for installation.

We put Hankooks on the Cayenne about a year and a half ago or so and they've been great.

Do NOT buy Cooper's!!! That's all I'll say.

We did this last year. Ended up with Kuhmos and the local guys put it in for less than $50 more than tire rack when all was said and done. These are three season tires and we run Blizzaks in the winter. Good ride and handling and fuel mileage is better than the all seasons we had no these rims. We had Kuhmo summer tires when we lived in CA and liked them a lot as well.

Got some new Continentals on my Silverado......rides just like a factory Porsche! :)

As far as all-seasons on an SUV, Michelins are good but don't seem to last very long. Same with Goodyears. Good traction with both but not more than 20k to 25k miles before needing replaced.

I would throw Continentals in the mix. Good brand at good midstream price. Falkens are good and inexpensive also.

As far as the chains go, look to wallyworld. They usually are competitive. NTB is nice because you can buy a road hazard warranty. NTB also has the long term alignment deal.

what type of driving?

We put a set of Nitto Crossteks on our Denali about a year ago. They have great bad weather traction but are way too noisy at highway speeds. I would not recommend these for that reason for a DD SUV.
The Goodyears that came with the truck were great. I forget the exact model though.

Sedate. And city.

If you need all seasons that actually work well in *all* seasons, look at Nokian WRG2s. They're excellent.

What size? I need to start looking for some 17's. Maybe a 265/70 but I'm wondering about dropping back to a 245/70. Was that a Conti SUV or TR?

I made a mistake 3-5 years ago and put Kumos on an older Civic.

Grandma driving for the most part.
Serious grandma driving, myself included.

Nice soft grippy tire....but milage decreased, and now it has noise/tread seperation issues with a huge flat spot.
Neither of us can remember slamming on the brakes.
I did only a few very lightweight ebrake corners a few winters past. Nothing.
Never have had that happen before.

just get a high quality all season tire if snow on pavement is involved or a 3 season if no snow

why does the friend have an SUV?

otherwise maybe Pirelli Scorpions - they used to be a hot all around ticket

Yokohama hts or ats if you need mud/snow tires. They are usually lower end priced but I have had better luck with them than some goodyears and continentals. The continental tires get noisy when they get older.

have had terrific results with both the Toyo and Kumhos on my gf's Murano (now at ~135k and counting). Did Toyo's at around 50k when the stock tires needed replacing. Didn't rotate em and still did well. Eventually fronts needed replacing at 100k, but rears were ok ....so she did the front Kumho since the Toyo's were on backorder at the time. Now the rears (Toyo) need changing, so will likely go with the Kumho's to round out the set. Very comfortable, great in rain. Cant speak on snow performance except for a couple isolated incidents...in the real heavy stuff, she tends to stay home

They are great tire until they "go away" then they are very noisy...only good for about 40k on my WRX

I have had Pirelli Scorpions on my F250 PSD they were great... now have some Cooper fitment...

And also on my WRX a Cooper Zeon for about 10K miles....feels like a keeper... vis inspection is very little wear.. and ride and handling are great...

When I replaced the tires on my F250, I went with these:

You might find the equivalent for your car. They improved my mileage by about 5-10%

I have had a bunch of different brands over the years on my trucks and SUVs but was stuck on Bridgestone Revo for a long time. What a great tire. I just can't see myself laying down more cash for Michelin because I just can't see that they are that much better. Well they are, now that I have them, but time will tell. I am surprise that are that good. Smooth and very quiet so far.
