I,m selling my targa, one stop motors called want to sell it for me?

Its time to move on the targa so I posted it on craigslist.
1980 Porsche 911SC Targa

today I got a call from Onestopmotors in Las Vegas they are a advertising finance Co for classic cars.

I had never heard of them. they say they work all the inter net sites to keep my listing on the front page till the car sells. then they arrange the shipping, deposit the cash in my account and pick up the car to deliver to the new owner.

I do feel there is more market for the car on the mainland. But don't know about these guys

Any one here used them or know about them?

CHEERS RICHARD

If they want money up front, not a chance.

If they expect a commission when it sells, I'm okay with that. They gotta sell it if they want to earn a buck.

Hmmm 84 reports and the nicest thing someone posted is "Liars & Cheats" about them. I bet if you call back they will have a great excuse why their company name is similar to the one on Ripoff Report's but it's not the same company.

BBB only has 192 complaints filed against business. They do have 4 reviews on Google.

from the info provided from the web they rank right up there with the Nigerian scam.

That said you may get a few nibbles from buyers on the main land, having the car here would make it easier to sell.

Might i suggest to get a fellow Pelican to assist with this.
Generally i wouldnt pay any cash to anyone wanting to sell my things,
I can do that pretty well.

Well the saga continues, I got a series of emails from a guy , says he is in Guam.
First email , what is your best price?
That was it, no questions about the car. It's condition, history, nothing.

After a couple more emails he offers. 11k, says he can wire the funds to my account.
And arrange the shipping to Guam. Still no questions about the cars condition. He said he has a newer Porsche, but wants an old school one.

Sounds like a scam to me. If it goes any farther, and he comes up to a decent number. I'll get a new bank account to give to him for the transfer. I learned that right here on pelican. Then wait till the funds show up, put into another account and proceed with the deal.

Are there any real people on craigslist?
Crazy huh?

Cheers Richard

You don't need a new bank account number. Just give him the routeing info from your bank. Call them and tell them you are selling a car and are expecting a bank transfer for payment. They will give you the transfer number. His bank sends it to your bank and your bank puts it in your account. No risk.

If the buyer wants to pay by Western Union and his agent will pick up the car then it's a scam.

That sounds fishy too Richard.... I would hold out for someone who will bring you cash or a cashiers check. Hawaii is a small place, got to be someone looking for a 911 in retail red there.

Scam. He's already gotten your email address to scam you, next he's going after your bank info and will attempt to do something fishy with the transfer. You have to apply common sense to selling a car on the internet. People simply do not buy a 33 year old Porsche online without asking questions. Any generic questions such as "is your item still available" are automated messages fishing for a reply. I buy and sell a lot online, you have to temper your enthusiasm for a sale with some common sense or you'll get screwed. If a deal seems too good to be true, it is.

In regards to the scammer selling service, you can do the same things for cheap or free. You can create an Ebay and Craigslist ad for free, Ebay only makes you pay if the item passes your reserve and sells. I've never sold a car on EBay, but that free national exposure has led to several face to face sales, including my prior '88 Carrera. Autotrader is a pay service but not too expensive, and listings on Pelican get a lot of views. It's a nice looking Targa and a decent price, it will sell.

Well there you have it. After listening to every one here and seen the complaints it boils down to a scam.. I don't like it when these so called businesses contact me. It looks like the scam artists are reading the Craigslist daily

+1 on CL, eBay, or autotrader (pretty sure autotrader has a "run the ad until it sells" option.

Unfortunately when advertising on the Internet the scamers will find you... I just keep it simple... the minute they start to propose some sort of elaborate exchange I write them off and move on to the next offer.

On the upside, typically the Craigslist phishing scams are automated and generic. So when the reply says "hello is your item for sale" you can safely assume scam. Most real sellers will ask pointed questions, or at least address the car for sale.

Why do they always use Guam? Like they can't break the mold and say that they're in Norway or something?
