Yes Zeke,
I totally understand about " buyer beware ". However my main intent is to not even sell as much as it is to get some information about the set. Selling it is secondary, at most. Many are assuming I want to sell the posters with out disclosing anything. It is bad enough to be wrongfully accused of trying to scam. But I am also being accused of being a stupid scammer. After all who in their right mind would buy a " mystery box "( seems there are some that would )....... and if I was scamming I would claim it is a Strenger set, which I totally am not ...... Anyways, I really do appreciate your help. Would the guy that you call Hammond, be Mike Hammond ?? Thanks Again !! |
Mike H. Of course. Very knowledgeable guy. He has treated me like dirt, but I hear that's normal. The 2nd time he was so totally rude to me (and my wife) I wrote off the whole S Registry scene.

However on the other hand I am not accusing you of being a scammer, just unfamiliar with the forms. Not that there is anything wrong with that. |
yeah , I kind of remember Hammond about 20years ago ( POC ), kinda of grumpy back then.....................

Hey guys, I have a Porsche in my garage. I know it's a Porsche but can't tell what model because its dark in the garage. I don't want to turn on the light because it might devalue the car. How much is the car worth?

You guys must work for the media or a political party. Taken out of context, it does seem as if he is trying to sell it. Taken in the context of even a larger portion of the post: "...Does anyone have a idea of what it may be worth ?? I do not have the room to mount and hang them and would like to sell to someone that would." The question is "what is it worth?", not "will anyone buy it?" Really, not so difficult, just answer the question posed... |

Thank you again vbaron. I could not have said it any better myself..... I tell you it is pretty amazing some these reply's. If i had to do it over again I would probably re-word my post...........on second thought i shouldn't have bothered.

We really are a good bunch here, but when a post is made that sets of the scam radar plenty of guys get their spidey senses tingling. I never thought this was a scam, but until I see those posters its hard to say what they are worth, and you are gambling anything you pay for them. |
I did a quick search for "1993 Porsche Posters" (you said you bought them maybe 20 years ago) and I found this group. Nothing spectacular, in my opinion, and you more than likely have a similar grouping. Of course we'll never know, because they remain mummified in paper shrouds for some obscure reason known only to you. (Keeping the value high?)

18k: if it feels like we are making fun of this thread, it is because we are making fun of this thread.
You were been told pretty early on that: -the number gives no indicator of what is in the box -there is not special value of these being unopened -without seeing the posters we have no idea of their value So, if you insist on not accepting the advise you've been given and want to be mysterious and vague, fine. Take the $50 someone offered and be happy. |

As noted above, its impossible to assess value on unseen posters. FWIW, I tend to doubt its one of the little set of 5 Strenger repops that were issued in a set of 500 in the early '90's. While someone may be asking $500 for a complete set of one of those 500, that seems quite high for what they actually are: small format reproductions whose only added value is in Strenger's signature. The complete set is worth much less than single copies of most of the large format orginals they copy. As they were sold through the then Porsche Boutique accessories line, the small Strenger repop sets that I've seen had a "BOU" part number: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1373467999.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1373468058.jpg The glory days of factory posters was pretty much over by 86/87 after Strenger retired, and factory posters after that date are usually fairly inexpensive. Good luck should you ever decide to look at what you have. Tim |
Why not just open them...?
|
I offered him a nice sum for the unopened tubes, but he politely declined. I think you grumpy old guys are being a bit hard on him. However, I don't understand why he doesn't just open them and get it over with. Probably trying to flush out the part number angle first, since unopened tubes will be worth quite a bit more than opened.
|
I don't think they're tubes, it looks like they were wrapped in butcher paper
|
when you open them wear cotton gloves
