Anyone here speak Spanish?
I'm looking for confirmation of translation for the following:-
Es mejor morir de pie que vivir para siempre de rodillas! Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers |
Better to die on your feet than to live forever on your knees.
You know there's lots of translation websites out there. |
Thanks for confirming that.
I tried a couple translation sites but both gave slight differencies. Cheers |
Thats correct. Claro que si!

Kind of sounds like a phrase an ex-prostitute would use....:D

The saying came from a statue in Glasgow.
Before WW2 kicked off - the Germans thought they would use Spain as a practice run. Many volenteers from Scotland left to help the Spanish fight the nazis and most were killed as a result. The statue was a reminder of their act. |
The Spanish Republic attracted many foreign volunteers to fight against Franco's troops in the Spanish Civil War. These volunteers were orgaized in the International Brigades which were many times used as cannon fodder since being volunteers they were more proactive in battle (and expendable!!!).
The funny thing is that since having these International Brigades gave the Republic a lot of international prestige, they began filling them up with Spanish conscripts. So my grandfather ended up in one of these brigades with comrades from around the globe. Fortunately he survived the war but he participated in many of the worst bloodbaths. |
