some facts from one of the museum directors. People donate their cars to the museum. Not all are display worthy or they duplicate the style/ intent of something they already have. The museum is not allowed to resell them for a couple years (tax laws). After that they can sell them and use the funds for operating/ rennovation expenses. Some of what I have seen in the vault are truly horrible or very low value. But they do bring $ to help the place when they finally get to sell them.
Seems like a very reasonable set up, and one that is repeated at other museums around the country. They are getting rid of more of this inventory, and following the rules carefully. The controversial articles that were published, are way off base on facts. Check out the museum's blog for their explanation on the latest brouhaha

I've been following the story for a week. They are probably within their bounds, but we don't have to agree with what they are planning to do with some of the money. This cover for the exterior of what is really the old Orbach's building does absolutely nothing for me. Perhaps if it was in Bahrain.
