Oshkosh 2013

Ok, so who's going? I'll be there all week, first time I've gone and I can't wait.

Matt,

Weather permitting, I plan to arrive Saturday or Sunday and will be there until around Wednesday or Thursday morning. I will be camping under the wing of my Pacer. I will try to remember to post here again once I know what row of Vintage Airplane Camping I end up in. I will PM you my cell. I typically walk all morning and then retreat to the shade of my wing for the airshow (and a cold beer) in the afternoons. In the evenings I typically head out into Camp Scholler on my bicycle to hang out with old friends who drive their campers instead of flying.

Pics from last year.... My wife may stay home this year which makes packing for a week at Oshkosh a bit easier.

Double the bags and double the bicycles last year took some creative careful packing.

By arriving mid morning on Saturday (July 27th this year), I typically get to park out on the flightline between the Hangar Café and the Ultralight "barn". Last year with the poor turnout, I ended up parking right behind where are the old Antiques park just south of Theatre in the Woods. I like being out near the flightline better as it provides a great vantage point for laying in the shade under the wing to watch the afternoon daily airshows.

Go buy a tent and cooler, grab your wallet and sunscreen, download the 2013 Oshkosh Airventure Notam and program your GPS for the town of Ripon. You won't regret it! This is my 20th year of attending and I would not think of missing it.

I can't make it but I know Major Dave Born, he will be there with Texas Flying Legends. Look him up, he's a great guy.

I was there for 3 days in 1995 and still remember the brilliant organization and sheer variety of planes to see.

Cool,

Only been in a small plane once. True story, about 40 years ago, I walked out of my Dad's condo on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, MA and stuck my thumb out to hitchhike to some town in New Hampshire to see a Co-Ed. This guy picks me up and I tell him where I'm going. He was going to some small nearby airport to fly his Cessna. He flew me to a small airport 5 or 10 miles away from my destination. My friend drove to the airport and picked me up. I was there in about 90 minutes from when I stuck my thumb out.

I met onewhippedpuppy while he was working the Beechcraft display and xlr8 stopped out at my airplane..... Nice to chat with Pelicans face to face. The first couple days were chilly, but I will take that any day over last years 100 degree days. I am not sure my wife agrees.

We got a late start Saturday due to low ceilings, but after some local scud running and dodging a few light rain showers in Ohio and Indiana, we had a great flight up just off the Chicago shoreline under the class B airspace.

Our later than normal arrival at about 5:00 pm had us parking in row 90 about even with the ultralight barn.

A friend of a friend just finished restoring this Funk that he got as a basketcase.... It will no doubt be feaured in either Sport Aviation or their vintage magazine as they were taking it out for a photo flight session. It had a swarm of people looking at it all week as it is immaculate.

I did not take many pics this year.

Local silver T34 I perform annual inspections on parked in the warbird area.

Warbird on a trailer recently recovered from Lake Michigan with mussels and algae still covering most of it.

Baron parked next to was for sale..... Twins are dirt cheap right now due to fuel and maint costs. He only was asking 50k

Monday Chicago performed after the airshow.
