So let's say that took a week. then it was shipped to a distributor, and maybe it sat for another week. then it was delivered to the station, where it was mixed with gas in an underground tank that had been sitting there for a couple weeks, and it sits there for another week until you buy it.

That gas is nearly a month old when you filled up worst case scenario.

In your case making sure yo go to a high volume dealer is even more important.

Joe's fillin' station out on route 9 where they sell maybe 200 gallons a week is probably not the hot ticket. :)

I used to think some went a little over the top being afraid of bad gas. I had never had a problem until 2 years ago, I had filled up my 57 Merc with Super just before summer came to a close. The next spring, it ran horribly...gas had gone bad. I had never had this happen before and i have cars sitting over a year without a problem. I recognized that the station I go to sells very little super and it had probably be sitting around for a long time. Now, my last fill up before winter is regular and I toss in some sta-bil.

Checking in with prices in Chicago

Premium - $4.20 in the city, $3.99 just outside of the city (burb). The father away from the city and county, the price goes down

Regular - $ 3.85 in the city, $3.65 just outside of the city.

I can't tell you the last time I saw Premium under $4 gal (both of my cars run on premium)

yep, real close to being under $2/gal around here. Couple years ago I was 100% sure that would never happen again. Crazy but I'm pretty sure now is the time to invest in gas/oil, I doubt it will stay this low for long.

Gas prices..........

Here in South Georgia I can get 87 octane for $1.88/gal and diesel for $2.59 per gal. I expect it to go at least a bit lower yet! Premium gas is about $.40 per gal more than regular.

just back from Tuscon. i'd be lying if i said i didnt consider buying a 55 gallon drum..hahah.

$1.77 was the lowest. i wanted to just spray that cheap stuff everywhere..and i upped my speed to a blistering 75 mph..just let my hair down, and threw caution to the wind..even put my truck into 4x4!!

got back to california and immediately went into my hypermiler drills.

porsche tech 01-26-2015 10:54 AM

$1.65 yesterday with 3 cents off because I have a Kroger card.--Dave

I have been looking at replacing my 99 powerstroke diesel 4x4 F-250 Ford truck for awhile now and will probably clean it up in the Spring and go ahead and sell it. My quandry now is whether to get another diesel truck, or the same truck with a 6.8L V-10 gas motor (very similar torque ratings from a 99 diesel to a 2005-2006 Ford V-10), so pulling the horse trailer and the 30' camper is a non-issue. I think I could actually come out ahead of the game using a less efficient gas motor with the much lower ($1.20 a gallon lower) fuel cost. I don't daily drive the truck anyway, and I have been irritated with the way the diesel starts and runs in cold weather. Sounds like it might be time to go gas.

Oh Haha 01-26-2015 01:33 PM

We are bouncing between @1.80 and 2.00 for 87 here for the past few days.

Last week I paid 1.65(Wed.) but by Fri. it was back up to 1.79.

I put 15.00 in my Suquinox and had a full tank. I was at just above 1/4.

I hope these prices stick around into the good weather so I can enjoy the 911 without much guilt.

I saw $1.71 and 9/10ths for a gallon of regular unleaded in Wayne (Passaic County, North New Jersey) this week. Filled up my Sport Track from the amber low fuel to full for $31.00. Can't remember if I EVER did that before!

Very true, and for nearly 6 months/year we can swim in a WARM ocean without a wetsuit ;)
Already in the 1.60's here in dirty jersey.

Prices in NJ are getting low. Seen it as low as $1.52. Filled up for less than $23...haven't done that in a long time. Actually, reminds me somewhat when I got my first car, filling up cost me about $8.50 to fill it up. I was paying $0.85 a gallon for diesel back then. Ah, the memories. I think though 2016 dollars, fuel is cheaper now that it was in 1986.
