Yes, his family has money. He's a pretty poor example of why college athletes should be paid, my guess is that if he wasn't a football player he'd be one of those college kids with a great apartment, nice car, and plenty of money from mom and dad to go out on the weekends. Not exactly a ramen noodles sort of life.

I think he's a doosh and incredibly immature, but I have to say the kid is electrifying to watch. He's done some dumb stuff but at least he isn't beating his girlfriend or shooting people (that we know of).

As for the getting paid part - no question, college athletes should be paid. It's a shame many are critically injured and what do they get? They lose their scholarships and can't even get their educations paid for.

I got paid in college to do research - at the time it was $25K/yr. Not bad to be a lab rat - didn't even have to teach any classes!

I say pay the kids to play. Why not? The sport is about money (like my reasearch was). Its always about money - lets not kid our selves any more.

Of course I had a fellowship / stipend. Thats not to say that an NFL team could do the same for a prospect either...or any professional team for that matter. Heck, if I thought that the Cowboys were funding Johnny Football I would be very interested in watching him get his clock cleaned but if the Pats had him penned in for a 5 year gig after a good season I would be real interested in a game or two!

My parents have plenty of money. I still ate a lot of ramen noodles and baked potatoes with salad dressing on them for dinner and commuted primarily by bicycle. Depends on the parents I guess.

You actually believe that line of BS? Look at the major schools, Bob Stoops is making MILLIONS of dollars per year to coach football, so it pisses me off that everybody acts like these are broke nonprofits that we are talking about.

Make no mistakes, universities don't *show* a profit due to retarded spending and paying exorbitant salaries to some employees, but as someone who currently attends a university, it is pretty clear that they are out to make a profit....

Bob Stoops makes the university mega millions. He just gets a big chunk of it. The football program pays for all the other sports teams for the men & women.

I think it is funny that Les Miles has it in his contract that he will get one dollar more than Bob Stoops salary.
