E-Cigs Catching On With Children

CDC: E-cigarette use doubles among children | Al Jazeera America

The e-cig industry has gone well beyond marketing their product as a smoking cessation tool or cigarette alternative. They are going all out to get non-smoking users, and having good success, including among children.

Writing is on the wall. E-cigs will be regulated. The country is not going to see decades of painful anti-smoking progress undone in a few years by e-cigs.

I thought most of them would only sell to 18+

The few times I've seen people buy them, the stores required id

In most states, minors can buy e-cigs.

E-cigs are being marketed broadly, using techniques designed to reach kids, teens, and young people. From candy and fruity flavours to celebrity pitchmen, TV spots, social media and "underground" marketing with free samples at events and clubs.

The industry, which now includes tobacco companies, is trying to get as many users hooked as possible in the 1 to 2 years before the FDA is expected to have final regulations for the products. So they are pulling out all the stops now.

There are several types.

What you normally see in a convenience store is a self contained unit with nicotine. 18 to buy.

THen there are the real vaporizers, starter kits are on the $80 range. Rebuildable and you can put pretty much any liquid in them.

Since those devices are independent of the nicotine "juice" technically they are not age restricted although I've never seen a shop sell to minors. The shop I use won't even let a minor in the door.

Then there is mail order. If the kid has a credit or debit card difficult to control.
