Just Installed Century Link Hi-Speed Internet and...

...Virgin Broadband2Go sucks the big one!!!
.
I owned/ran a business w/10 employees for 34 yrs. and I gave executive-style service...I expect a company to do the same for me when I pay what they ask.
F'g Virgin took my monthly payment and gave me sub-standard service for years.
I finally got off my ass and made the move.
Phuq 'em!
.
This CL is so fast that my computer is jumping all over my desk.
With Virgin I couldn't even get online at times and when I did it was as slow as dial-up and my mouse was sluggish and uncontrollable.
Also, at times I couldn't even compose/type on my gmail.
.
Virgin = $40/mo.
CL = $30/mo. for 1 yr. then $40/mo.
.
I'm happy!!! :)

lane912 09-12-2013 06:59 AM

Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

just got 69 down and 29 up- but I am at work and they havea a very large pipe

Don Ro 09-12-2013 07:05 AM

No idea what this means but here it is:
.
Ping 41ms
Dnload speed: 11.35 Mbps
Upload speed: 0.82 Mbps
.
75.171.47.94
Century Link
Rate Your ISP (2 out of 5 stars)

.
BTW, I'm paying for only 12 Mbps...but comparing it to Virgin...it's fast.

Don Plumley 09-12-2013 08:27 AM

31ms
22.80 down
2.97 up

U-Verse. And I feel this is slow and am going to replace it...

Don Ro 09-12-2013 08:39 AM

What's "U-Verse"?

ATT. I'm having Time Warner installed this weekend, I'll have to give it the speed test.

I'm at work on a wireless laptop. Dignity's home server is in Phoenix apparently. Upload and Download are about the same - atypical of most connections. Glad you like your new speed. It is good to check. I get 30/4 with Charter at home at the right time of day.

cstreit 09-12-2013 08:51 AM

Comcast.

Pretty happy with it....

Don Ro 09-12-2013 08:56 AM

How do y'all get your results to post-up like that?

Light years ahead of Virgin, I'll tell you one thing, by God!

Don Ro 09-12-2013 11:22 AM

Just been playing youtube videos and no more stop/go, waiting and waiting, interruptions, etc.
Where as before w/Virgin when I downloaded youtube tunes I'd only get 3/4 of the full boat...now all is well.
I waited way too long to dump Virgin...my own fault really...lazy, I guess.

so... you're not a virgin anymore?

[did you call them up and tell them they aren't providing what you contracted for? and you will stop paying unless it is fixed?]

Steve Carlton 09-12-2013 11:39 AM

Should I complain to AT&T U-Verse, or is this okay for a wireless router into a laptop?

No mo Virgin!
I dumped them yesterday and told the rep. about their chit-rag service - he didn't care...some dude in Manila just tryin' to earn a living.
That's another thing...for years I would hang up and call again trying to get an English-speaker...no mo!

Basically, what this means, is that you are running a 12mbs download. That is pretty quick, basically what you would get if you had a fiber to the home installation. The upload speed could use a bit of help though.

onewhippedpuppy 09-13-2013 03:52 AM

I finally gave Cox the boot and went with Uverse, saving $60/mo for better tv and slightly slower Internet (20 MBPS vs 30). Cox was fast but had frequent connection issues, and their bill went up a few dollars each month. They were totally indifferent until we cancelled, too late a-holes!

MotoSook 09-13-2013 04:55 AM

AT&T DSL here in my rural hood and it SUCKS! I wish I had options.

Flat Six, Judging by the ISP, I'm guessing JD Powers?

Tobra 09-18-2013 08:10 AM

Try going to command prompt and do a trace.

Go to start, in the little search box type "cmd"

Hit enter at the prompt, type tracert pelicanparts.com

or whatever internet site you are looking to go to google.com, hotnakedcheeleaders.com, whatever. This will tell you how many hops and how many milliseconds each one takes. As I understand it, it goes from your computer to where ever you are going, and jumps from server to server along the way.

That 0.86 is kind of slow.

Yup; sharp eyes Steve -- not too many people know J.D. Power & Associates is part of McGraw-Hill Financial. How'd you know?
