My Hot Rod project
I'll be pulling the body off the frame and completely stripping it. The body will then be dipped. I will then know exactly what repair the body needs. This is the scary part, but the body is very clean without patch panels in the doors or quarters. It then will be sent out to be chopped and for all metal repair.

nice!
Is there potential for problems down the road when acid (?) dipping car bodies? |
Chevy powered I hope?
rjp |
Oh No!!!! Dean, your not really going to chop that survivor , are ya?
|
What Edgar said. An old guy's reaction I guess.
|
Love hotrods, but that's too good to hack up.

O man that looks too nice to chop. Looks very original.

Don't they make repro or f/g bodies for that sort of thing? But, I hope you enjoy the process and the end result. |
Hafta admit as much as I love a good rod I'm in the that's too nice to chop camp.
|
another vote for no chop.
|
I also vote for not chopping. This coming from a guy with a chopped '31.
And PLEASE, whatever you do, DO NOT put a Chevy in there. EVERYONE has a bowtie motor. They're like belly buttons. Why would you want to be like everyone else?? |
That sure is a nice looking car as it is Dean. Have you thought of a resto mod approach, retain the outer appearance of the car but put in modern running gear and nice interior with mod cons?
This would really stand out in a world filled with chopped, fender less hot rods. And make it very useable. This will be fun to watch, how ever you decide to go with it. I'm sure we all will come aboard and and cheer you on with your project. Cheers Richard |
Great looking car. What ever you decide to do with it good luck and keep us posted!

You can still see the factory markings under the hood in this picture. http://farm1.staticflickr.com/170/45...3f1_z.jpg?zz=1 Stripped Hood by willtel, on Flickr |

You know the one that Car Craft has been running the same "how to" article for the last oh, 40 years or so? ;) Seriously, how about a polished out Northstar V8? rjp |
I love hot rods but that is why there are basket case cars to chop up-
That is way too nice to chop |
you're going to cut that one up.
my friend is going to keep this one original. just doesn't seem right http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379286912.jpg |
No way would I cut that car up.
keep it AS IS and find a beater to hot rod or just sell it and buy something else |
Why start with something like that with all the questions when you can buy a brand new, rust free, steel body from Brookville Roadsters?
|
For the love of all humanity, find another donor car please.
|
they made millions of them, and there are plenty left, so do what you want with it. it's your car and your idea. no business of anyone else what you do with your property.

Another vote for "no chop" here. But if a chopped '32 has been a longtime dream, go for it. Personally, it makes my neck hurt just to look at somebody driving one all hunched over. Maybe discomfort doesn't have to be part of the deal if everything is planned out and detailed measurements provide for a low seat mounting. I would definitely cruise a few shows and ask owners if you can sit inside to evaluate various layouts.
Do an image search and you will see that 99% of them are chopped. It would be so cool to do something different. I would definitely leave the fenders on, but here's an approach to consider: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379318490.jpg I think this is about as sweet as it gets... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379318768.jpg |
John,
Thos are totally gorgeous. I had a 'momentary' thought about a mild street rod mod of my 49 Chev half ton...no chop though. I've left it looking pretty much stock and really only made safety mods...front disc brake and R&P steering. |
While the car is in relatively good shape for being 83 years old, it is by no means a pristine restoration. The car sat inside a barn and believe me the custom velour interior smells like it. I also got the blessing to hot rod it from the 84 year old farmer I bought it from.
As far as buying a body from Brookville, a 32 coupe is 25k. This was a good comprimise between a really poor A and a new steel body. It will still be costly to bring up what I have. The only certainty right now is the body being repaired and chopped. It will have a manual transmission. As far as engine most likely small block Chevy, but early hemi is a thought. Maybe even cadillac. I first need to get there. I hope to send out the body to be dipped in December and from there body work. It's going to take some time. Dean |
A blown 392 Hemi with dual fours would be sweet
|
Here's the interior...absolutely stinks. Some kind of rodents had used it as a house complete with bathroom. I've already ripped out all of the carpet and seating from the rumble seat. The interior is next, after I get some fall house work done.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379365367.jpg Inside of door...surface rust but very solid no patch panels http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379365789.jpg |
another vote for no chop.....yes i'm old.
