Boston had problems with molasses as well.

That's the first thing I thought of.

50/50 with water makes an excellent deruster.

A HAZMAT issue...really! It is!

It's pretty bad out here with all the rotting fish and dying coral. It took Matson one week to make a statement regarding the spill and all the wildlife it has killed and the ecological damage it has done.

maybe b/c Matson has oil spill plans but in one news article it said they did not have a molasses spill plan

interesting to think of all the things we find benign but are not when transported as bulk cargo

e.g. grain spills from RR cars fermented, attracted bears (who like to get drunk) and then bears then got hit by trains - the RR co. was sued under the End. Species Act IIRC

That is correct, Matson did not have a molasses spill plan. However, they did have a molasses spill on Maui ten years ago and probably should have had one.

I guess its similiar to Bald Eagles getting killed by wind turbines - they are protected so anything that is manmade that kills them faces a stiff fine...Wonder if GE figuered that into their profit projections ?
