F1 Singapore

If practice 1 and 2 is any indication, should be a good race this weekend. The usual suspects are all quite fast and close on times. Despite being a little under the weather (bad headache) I'm looking forward to this race.

Now that Massa is racing for glory, hope he does well here. And hope he lands a good ride next year. Kimi and Alonso should provide some spark next year, I'm thinking.

I predict another Vettel romp to victory, but I sure hope I'm proven wrong. I'm no Alonso fanboi, but his ability to drag that car around and get the results he does sure ought to be rewarded.

I see Massa going to Williams or Sauber in the hopes his seasoned eye will help develop the car. If not, he should hang it up and go sports car racing instead.

I agree, the Nando-Ice Man show should be interesting next year. New engines should really stir ***** up!

Right, I hope for nothing but the best for Massa. He seemed to be a real gentleman his entire career. Handled his many ups and downs with style, his Dad too.

His losing the 2008 WDC by a single point to Hamilton produced one of the most humbling displays of sportsmanship I've ever seen. I've got nothing but respect for Massa - he's got huge heart.

For sure, watching his family celebrate for those 4 or 5 secs was tough. He and his family gained a lot of admiration for their acceptance that Hamilton was Champ
after all. Since then I've always wanted Massa to do well. After his accident, when he had to pull over for Alonso was tough also. They (his team) should have let him have his win that day. Any hopes of a successful comeback from his accident was squashed on that very lap "Alonso is faster than you".

Fernando and Kimi is like fire vs ice. Two former champs in the same team. Should be interesting.

NBC drops the ball. No qualifying on tv. At least not on dish. A really exciting and important part of the f1 weekend and NBC flubs it. Hate to say it, but speed was better.

Note the making of "Rush" will air before the F1 pre show.

Kind of late now, but if you have NBC Sports then you can use your cable/dish logon info to log into NBC Sports Live Extra and watch live qualifying online.

I torrented the Quali so I could watch today. I love this circuit, was in Sing earlier this year and walked out on pit lane. Would love to see it live; Hopefully Kimi's back is better tomorrow and Mercedes can take it to Red Bull.

Neilk 09-22-2013 09:47 AM

Snoozefest. There might have been some good action in back, but it is hard to get excited when Vettel is leading from start to finish. I just watched it delayed, utilizing the 30 second skip looking for any decent action.

livi 09-22-2013 09:57 AM

Greatly entertaining in the end. From third place and further back that is.. Glad for Kimis sake. With that back pain and all.

Don Plumley 09-22-2013 10:00 AM

That was a 30 second drivers clinic. Cold and calculating - which is why it is boring.

But the action was still good action. Kimi back from 13th to podium; Alonso on a one stop after a blistering start; If Mercedes had <3 sec pit stops they would have been in a better place. Sad to see Weber's tranny give (and why not Vettel's!), but touching to see Alonso give Mark a ride so he could take his last lap in Sing.

Nice:

Not so nice:

And Weber got one too, which apparently is his 3rd and a 10 grid spot penalty for Korea. Potentially the first time in history an Italian car rescues another cars driver...

jyl 09-22-2013 11:37 AM

Pretty good action down the order and a cool taxi ride at the end. I get the feeling that Webber and Massa will make the last several races interesting, and Alonso and Kimi are showing real grit and talent. 2014 could be cool if Red Bull loses a step. If Vettel can't qualify P1 so consistently, the championship will be wide open again.

I also watched the making of Rush program. Didn't realize the racing scenes were filmed with authentic period F1 cars including the actual Hunt and Lauda cars.

imcarthur 09-22-2013 02:42 PM

I missed the taxi ride since I shut it off after the checkered. It would appear that I missed the best part of the race. Too bad about Webber's penalty, though.

I'm convinced that the Red Bulls have traction control or something else that no one else on the grid has. I also would be surprised if Vettel has better equipment than Webber. (Remember a few years ago when they routinely took parts off of Webber's car and gave them to Vettel?) It also seems like Webber's car is made out of Vettel's used parts. How else can his car always have mechanical issues while Vettel's rarely does?
