Toastlas?..... unsafe at any speed. Paging Mr. Nader.

Really good post, jyl. Funny how Elon suddenly stopped using the "fires per" stat.
... how quickly that "5 times more likely to experience a fire in a conventional gasoline car than a Tesla" statistic can flip the other way -and then some- against a small car company.

Vehicle fire trends and patterns

Background info - see chart further down for the pct of vehicle fires caused by accidents/collisions.

Edit: To be clear, personally, I am not bothered by the rate of accident-related fire in Model S - whether it is 0.0002 or 0.00002 or 0.002 per car-year, it is a extremely rare thing. I take more risk riding my bike to work every morning. It is just interesting to see how this will play out in terms of public perception. Remember Audi's and Toyota's "unintended acceleration" publicity - those hurt the car sales very significantly, practically killed Audi in the US market back in the 1980s. Grossly unfair but it happened.

Tell that to Duane and Janet Willis.

Tesla On Fire sounds like a great name for a rock band.

+1

What annoys me is Elon pumping the BS defenses, left and right.

Whereas thisV is refreshing.

I'm thinking more like a song.

Put it to the tune of "Girlfriend in a Coma"

Looks like Tesla is following the Pinto model/fix/solution...

Elon Musk Turns To Medium And GIFs To Reveal New Model S Fire Safety Feature | TechCrunch

Except Musk is using titanium, rather than plastic(of the Pinto tank fix). I would have been leaning towards steel for better weight specific toughness, but whatever... Ti sells better.

Ironic that the TSLA article was written (poorly) by Matt Burns.

The financial link from Page 1 was updated recently and covers all of the issues with Tesla's finances.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/investment-ideas/tesla-financials-a-peak-under-the-hood/article14668932/

The main reason the stock does so well is that there are only a small percentage that are available to be traded. The Tesla owners and boosters own the lions share of that percentage. When Elon Musk personally bought $10M worth of stock this year from the open market, it created tremendous upward pressure.

Using non-GAAP accounting isn't going to win the hearts of analysts, but it will allow them cover for fan boys. The most recent issue is cash flow, something that sunk the price of GE stock, even though GE BEAT earnings per share. Tesla is requesting retroactive discounts from suppliers and NET 60 or longer terms.

But Tesla says

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/tesla-says-it-did-not-ask-suppliers-for-cash-back-2018-07-23

So, who do you believe? The WSJ or your lying eyes?

Wasn't about this time in the company life cycle that DeLorean was dealing drugs?
Musk is more Ponzi than DeLorean.

Since you weren't getting all the attention you wanted, maybe you can add this statistic to more valid reasons to hate up on Tesla.

This bump was to reflect on predictions of the past.
