The Beer Chat
We live in the Golden Age of Beer.
I go to a bike shop some afternoons. It has twelve taps. They have different beers every week. All local micro breweries. All interesting, creative, strong willed beers. Three blocks from my house, there is a pub. It has sixteen taps, some local beers and a few English ales and stouts. Next to the bike shop, a British pub has all the vital brews of the realm. My Guiness is here. Within a mile radius of my house, there are twenty or so other bars and pubs. Only a few have "Bud" or "Miller". Now, I'm also at the stage where I can't guzzle beer like I used to. But that's fine. I enjoy it like fine wine. What are your favorite beers, or types of beer? Lately my choice has been Cavatica Stout. |
I love nearly everything Stone Brewery and Rogue put out. I'm a hophead so stuff like the Stone RuinTen makes me giddy. There's a local brewery, River Dog, that has a pretty solid IPA, but some of their other stuff is mediocre...

I hit the beach today with a whole lota Becks. It's amazing how much beer you can drink at the beach before your eyes get blurry.
|
today's brews: Berreyessa Brewing Freshie followed by Unibroue la fin du monde.
two delicious, completely different beers. Only downside is they are both about 8% abv, so 2 pints go along way... |
I've been on a German lager kick, particularly Spaten. I drank more than my share tonight.:)
|
I had a choc for the first time last weekend... Need to pick some up and see if it holds up to a second try, but it's a very good beer, with a ton of history in Oklahoma.
Matt, you should be able to get it in Wichita, if you are into wheat beers. |
I drink mostly local. A new brewery just north of here, "Lone Pint" makes a beer called "Pioneer Yellow Rose". Golden nectar of the gods! Think Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but even better balance and very floral and grapefruit citrus.
The make an IPA called "667 - Neighbor of the beast" Other beers: Double IPA Jabberwocky and an English brown called "Gentlemen's Relish" |
The last two weeks I've been purchasing Warsteiner Oktoberfest from the local grocery store. A fine beer in my opinion.

Anyone like cider or is it not popular in the US?
I'm into cider at the moment, a very refreshing brew. |
My tastes aren't well-informed at all where beer is concerned. I'm good with Becks, and I like the German wheat beers a whole lot. Not keen on IPAs, and never, ever, Bud or Coors. Miller in a pinch, if I'm desperate.
|
My latest find is Dogfish Head India Brown Ale. I like malty flavors and hops both, but less hops than typical of an IPA.
|
Surely you mean India Pale Ale...?

Not a name many on here will know or have heard of but its my local brewery in my village in a beautiful part of the English countryside

cider is getting popular in this part of the US (PNW) - in fact, it's the next big thing (since we've already been thru wine, beer, micro-distilleries & pot)
