Anyone here Gulf?
OK, so I have the best wife in the world. We're working on re-doing our family room. My wife not only finally agreed to put the TV over the fireplace, but I could paint our "pop" wall (main focus wall) with a 917 Gulf theme. It would have to be somewhat tame, or I could go all out on our downstairs bathroom with the Gulf theme.
Here's what I did with our son's bedroom: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1283448505.jpg It's changed a bit since this pic and now has a silver metal bunk bed, a Martini clock I made along with a spare deck lid hanging on the wall. Anyway, I'm looking for ideas and examples of Gulf inspired "home improvement" ideas. Garage pics are welcome as well. The wall is 9'x12' with a 4.5' high x 6' wide mantle in the middle and a 46" TV above that. The bathroom is small but I think may be approved for a "no holds barred" make-over. |
There was a thread on this awhile back, even gave the proper paint codes. I like the Martini look better.

The kids are more Martini and Jagermeister fans (I wonder where that came from), but I'm willing to "compromise" with a pidly 917 Gulf livery :D

Pretty much a non decision for me, no need to even ask. If "I" will be doing the work, it will be what "I" like. If "we're" doing the work and purchasing, then a discussion may be warranted.

I did my garage a while back. Your sons room looks nice.

Craigster - thanks for the follow up. I'll have to get some samples made up this weekend.
Crusty - once I get the garage to a point where it's ready for paint, it'll get the same Martini treatment as my son's room. Here's a link to the full thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/562237-support-discourage-obessions-2-yr-old.html Bleu - thanks for the inspiration. If you haven't picked a number yet, may I suggest the day he was born. |

Your wife is a saint...

There is no doubt about that! She actually brought up the idea of getting a Porsche before I did. Of course I had been fighting with the desire to own one since I was 15. I'm not even sure she finished the sentence before I yelled out "I love you" and headed to the interweb to start my, errr... our, search.

I hear ya. I had a viper green garage at my house in Florida that proved my wifes love for ever more. She tried twice trying to talk me out of selling my old S. Love is indeed strange.

What are you guys talking about???? I LOVE that nursery and think the colors look great. Who cares about guests? We are the ones that have to sit in it all day so do whatever we like is my motto! :) Love it. Can't wait to see pics.

Her exact response was, "Sooo cool! Can we get it done before Thanks Giving?" I think that's a go! Yes I know how lucky I am and no she doesn't have a sister....

Not bad for a day's work. My wife was a champ and got all of the painting done, while I kept the kids (2 & 4 legged) occupied for the day. Sorry for the horrible cell pic. I've got some better pics at home on the camera:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1384800576.jpg Here's a quick rundown of what we did: - Laid out the lines in 3m electrical tape - Pulled mantel off wall - Removed old tile and patched wall (new tile to come) - Get kiddos and doggies out of wife's way - Wife goes into painting trance and all is done when I return - She left the tape up and easily wiped off any paint from the tape as she went - Put TV back on wall - Put up mounting blocks to remount the mantel - Reinstall mantel Still to go is picking out new tile for the surround, running some cable mgmt raceways, install speakers, enjoy. |
Love the colours!
Just curious though....do you use the fireplace very often while watching TV? If so, you are creating a lot of unneccessary glare which could lead to some eyestrain while watching TV, especially if the lighting is fairly dim. Can you mount it on the adjacent wall?....just a thought. Signed, A Pelican Optometrist! Alex |
Thanks a lot Alex - now I can't show my wife this thread with all of the awesome things I said about her ;). We don't use the fireplace very often. The tv was on the other wall but just didn't work with our layout very well. With the tv over the fireplace, the closest seat to the tv is about 8 feet away and the other end of the couch is 12 feet away. I'll keep an eye out (bad pun, I know) for eye strain if/when we use the fireplace.
