Hill climbs --- Wye not ?
I sometimes visit youtube and see some great hill climbs in Europe. The crowds seem large and the cars are of every vintage. The whole event seems to be something I would love to attend. Why don't we have these kinds of events in our country? There must be some kind of roads where we could get this kind of event going. Just think the dragon in N. Carolina or some mountain roads in nevada. Can anyone think of a great place to start one, or if you know of one, please let us know.

The Dragon is way overrated.
IMO NC Hwy 215 puts it to shame. I drove it a few weeks ago in my BMW and had to pull over several times to let the brakes cool (on the downhill) and traffic was next to nothing. State Route 215, North Carolina - a great motorcycle road |

Yes, the dragon might be overated, but can you imagine putting some old group 7 race cars, or WRC cars on there with the road closed. Just like they do in Europe. Close it for all to see, camp out, grill sone brats and watch the cars going by. I would love to see it.

I'm surprised you guys don't have a lot of it. Every small town in this country has a car club that does a hill climb. Lots of fun and cars don't seem to come to grief as much going up hill - I know I don't going that way

Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association has been doing this for lots of years, and maybe still - I don't live there any longer. Five or six different hills during a season. I have pics from the 70's, and a few years ago.

I love watching those European hillclimb videos on YouTube also.
There used to be one at Chimney Rock in NC. Go to 6:00... that's when the runs start (very dicey Beta or VHS footage from '84): FB page for same: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Remembering-Chimney-Rock-Hillclimb/120570989977

Its a seriously competitve sport in UK. People spend huge sums on engines and transmissions. Many classes, from box-stock sedans, to formula one engined purpose built single seaters. All take place on private roads, eg farm tracks, with one recent exception. Imagine going 125 mph on an 8' wide steeply uphill road. At Harewood(my local track), one goes between two stone built farm buildings at about 80- 90 mph prior to braking hard for the hairpin and then accelarating out onto the hill where speeds of 125 mph are regularly seen prior to braking for the double apex final 90 degree bend. All over in less than a minute for the good drivers/cars. Cars are quicker up there than the bikes, because there are so many sharp corners.

Boise Idaho - Bogus Basin - 17 miles to the Ski area at the end of the pavement. Happy times.

May be the oldest hill climb in the US. Continues yearly. The guy that runs it participated in the inaugural CannonBall run. I will look up his name. Began in 1906. Oscar Koveleski ran it for years, not sure if he still does.

The Maryhill Loops road in South Central WA is awesome. Our vintage racing group runs there in October each year. One of my runs from 2012.

There are still hillclimbs in my area. The local SCCA is pretty active, and involves some of those same old guys who were involved in the Chimney Rock hillclimb events. And they even have "Chasing the Dragon" - the fifth annual one which was held this past August.

Highway 341 going into Virginia City. This hill climb has been going on for decades. For a long time, the Beddors (yes of Audi Quattro and Ruf fame) were big supporters along with the Ferrari Owners Club that I believe started this event.
Its basically all up hill with mountain on your right and increasing steep drop off on your left. Very exciting and unfortunately dangerous ( a couple people have lost their lives in the past)
