Stupid Human trick...advice ?

Just bought a Mac Book about three weeks ago from the Apple Store in Sacramento...just about an hour ago I spilled a big glass of dilute cranberry juice all over the keyboard. I'm pretty sure I just lost $1400 but thought I'd ask you guys what can be done ?

lane912 12-19-2013 02:02 PM

take it to the apple store and beg forgivness
they may be able to save it--

If you are within three weeks, you might call the apple store and add the apple protection onto the computer. I think you have 30 days from time of receipt to add it. Otherwise, begging for help may be your last resort.

Was there any vodka in the cranberry juice?

this, but you can just do it online with the serial number off the box.

I bought it on 12/4 and today is 12/19...but I don't think/know, if you can add Apple protection after the fact ?

HHI944 12-19-2013 03:17 PM

Go to the website and enter the serial and it'll let you know, but I'm pretty sure you have 30 days

Yeah, but he can't go online because he thinks he just FUBARed his computer.

Drdogface 12-19-2013 03:43 PM

I have a desk top too, so I could go online. But adding this after the fact ? Box is gone...but I'm sure my Mac guru who did the set up has it...

Serial number is on the bottom of the laptop....

what I find funny is that I read thread after thread everyday on here where you guys say how important it is to do the right thing and be honest (not pointing to anyone that has posted).

The guy F'd up and ruined his computer, but hey apple is a billion dollar company so who cares

Did you get any sort of electrical shorting when it happened, or did it just go dead? Take out the battery, drain it out, and put a fan on it for 3 days. You might get lucky.

I care...I won't lie...my fault so I have to eat it... My honor/ethics are worth more than $1400

Just went black... Don't see any way to get the battery out...

HHI944 12-19-2013 04:24 PM

Likely you're toast......The keyboard is right over all the real goodies so they most likely got doused and shorted.. ...but it's worth a shot to remove the battery.....I'd put it in a big Tupper ware covered in rice instead of using a fan though

dondarnell 12-19-2013 04:30 PM

Rice. It worked on my wife's phone that went in the pool.

scottmandue 12-19-2013 04:34 PM

Another vote for dry rice... I have never had to try it but lots of people swear by it for cell phones that have taken a dip.

If you lived closer I would offer to take a look (that is take it apart) for you... I'm no Mac Book expert but I have taken a few apart back in the day.

A while back I dropped a cup of coffee onto the keyboard of my HP laptop. New motherboard, plus labor cost about $400 and it was as good as new. 'Course it was an HP, not an Apple product....

+1
Let it dry and make an appointment at the Apple store. Maybe it is salvageable with the replacement of a few parts? I think they will look at for free.
