My Son Gets Called Out in of all classes Drama!

My Son who is a freshman is taking an elective - Drama. He thought it would be a blow off class. For the most it is. He had an assignment to witness a play or musical and write about his experience. The class was given this assignment a month ago. We were finally able to go to a production of a musical version of a Christmas Carol performed locally. We even knew a few in the cast. It was community theater so we are not talking off Broadway talent but it was obvious that these kids and adults worked hard and they did well.

My Son wrote a nice paper on his experience were he pointed out the local commitment as well as a thoughful message the work conveyed.

The biginning of the week the teacher had a melt down and went off on the the class saying that all but one of the students thinks this class is a blow off and only one student did the work. Holloway is the only student worth anything here he said. He went further with what I would say were left handed compliments stating that while Holloway doesn't always pay attention and is always talking at least he does try in class when I ask. The teachers comments were told to me by another student we know. My Son confirmed it. I'm proud (I guess).

Of course no good deed goes unpunished. The teacher was out the following day. The sub (who is also a cheer coach) had told the class that followed that the earlier class was unruley and that one kid stood out as a chatter box and full of ego - she was asked by a few students who that kid was...yup, you guessed it.

So I asked him what he did to make her say that and he told me "She said I was trying to be the center of attention which I was, its drama Dad, isn't that the point?". I presed further. He then said "She said that I was full of myself and and was cocky." I asked him what he said to after she said that. "I looked her square in the eye, smiled and told her she was beautiful."

"What! Are you nuts!!! What did she do? Say?" I said.

"She smiled and lowered her head and giggled like a little girl" he said.

Of course I had to ask him if she was beautiful and he replied "She's not my type, little thick but I also knew she was trying to look good cuz of the make-up and fake tan and fake boobs and kinda what she wore so I guess I just played into what she wanted to hear." he said.

Oh my lawd I need to have a serious talk with this kid...

Hahahahahaha!

I'd say he's got it all figured out already. No need for that talk Dad unless his grades slip. ;)

Yesterday some upper classman from the FB team told him he was gonna kick his azz cuz he was talk'n to his girlfriend. My son offered his jaw and said 'take your best shot, make it good, knock me out." the kid looked at him and said 'whats your problem dude?" to which he said 'I'm gonna allow you to kick my ass, I won't even throw a punch and when its all said and done and we are in court the Judge will take a look at me in my boy scout uniform and black eyes and my debate club hat on (DB8) and busted nose, and he'll look at you all roid'd up, tell me who will own who then? Got a boat? An RV? what ever ya got it'll be mine you throw down. You take a beat'n for a wad of cash and to put a guy like you threw hell? I would. Pound away muthaf******." His friend told me the guys mouth dropped and stood sillent. He told me my son told the guy that he was just talking to her and if he wanted her he would take her. He didn't want her so just chill. Guy walked away.

Either this kid is gonna be something or get killed trying...

At this rate, probably the latter. imho that kind of dialogue is great in a movie, but rather worrisome in real life. ymmv.

That was my thought too... Some big dumb lug will call his bluff and level his ass for talking like that.

Ferraripete 12-20-2013 08:09 PM

md, he sounds like a smart and charismatic young man. nurture those traits...he will go far and give you reason to laugh and be proud as he goes forward:)

bivenator 12-20-2013 08:11 PM

I believe you posted a nice story a few years back about teaching him how to fish, I believe he was listening.

AFC-911 12-20-2013 08:14 PM

Sounds like he'll learn when to shut his mouth the hard way.

Poster enjoys writing fiction. I was a pain in the ass kid and can imagine my father fictionalizing and elevating my rather mundane transgressions to the level of B movie dialogue.

But being adult and smarter than me, he put me in my place then and there, every time he became aware of my fark ups.

So, yeah, unless the op becomes disenchanted with his little boy's precocious, reckless behavior and deals with molding him into an adult with depth, yes, could be rather worrisome in real life.

But, as said, poster enjoys writing fiction...so all the above probably doesn't apply.
