![]() Hard to believe a V4 motor has enough power and the durability to last a full 24hrs at 8-9k RPM. This is a total surprise to me. They may not be the fastest overall, but efficiency is the game today. The "Total Energy Consumed" formula is the reason for these huge changes. Now we will see just how good Porsche engineers really are. Len

Will Porsche win LMP 1 at Le Mans this year? It depends. Lots of factors at work here. I think a lot of the factors come from inside V.A.G. The call was made back in 2003 to let Bentley win in their last year running the Speed 8:
Bentley Speed 8 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Will this happen for Porsche in their first year in LMP 1? If you see a few Joest team mechanics working on the 919 this year in the pits... yes. Otherwise I think this is just a learning year. Understand the car and the technology at speed for a full assault in the coming years. But...when you read about the Audi R18 for 2014, you see that it is more an evolution of last year's car. That could be telling also. Why heavily fund a car you want to run in 3rd or 4th place.

Does anyone else think that the Porsche is just a re-badged Audi? And that maybe we're being had? After waiting for Porsche's new LeMans racer, I feel like the kid that bought a Cracker Jack bag and found a worthless stick on tattoo.

One point missed thus far - say that between Porsche and Audi they take the podium, regardless of who wins. That means that VAG swept Le Mans. Pretty good bragging rights for the greater VAG Corporation.

Well... For starters, that isn't a 919....

Racecar Engineering is saying that the car we will see in Silverstone will look "drastically" different than the one above shown in Geneva. To an aerodynamicist that is probably true - I doubt i'll be able to tell much of a difference

headlights are different for sure. To me they are definitely different, and they are all along the same lines if you look at the Toyota or any of the other P1 cars...

Anyone who thinks it is just another version of the Audi really hasn't looked under the skin at all, or jsut doesn't know anything about modern race cars.
It isn't even close to what the Audi is. Everything is different- engine placement, gearbox design, front and rear suspension layout, front motor layout... It's all very different from the Audi, and very different from almost any other car out there. The V4 is so short, it is right in the middle of the car... and there is a massive carbon structure reaching out to pick up the rear suspension. The car has all it's mass very centralized. They are back to using coil springs and dampers, while most teams have been using torsion bars for integration and packaging purposes (the RS spyder was a torsion bar car).

I saw it and it lives!!! It was testing at Sebring a week before the 12 hours and I stopped by the track hotel on my way across the state to take a pee and saw it up and close!
