What if....as Tom mentions in his post could have been the case...the shooter was let go at his LE job because of anger management issues?

What if....the texter has a history of anger management issues and was under doctor's care and meds?

What if.....

We don't know everything.....

I don't see how any of that changes anything. The texter was a doosh and the shooter is a criminal. Fate brought these two together and the texter's number was up that day. Either one of them could have prevented the situation and no one else could have.

No I agree we don,t know everything I said I am suspicious when someone "retires" at 51 . He might have had a very good job offer or there might be something or nothing to it.
Both my wife and I separately noted the early retirement thing in the initial reports

It doesn't change anything .

Never said it did.

It's information that might help explain why those persons did what they did.

Other than being a doosh and a criminal.

And once again........just for good measure.......

.........I am not justifying nor condoning the shooting!

Oh come on now: a guy is texting and gets killed. He's dead. What in the world was this old man thinking? Texting, killing, texting, killing. I guess these days its all about shooting, not talking. Sad commentary on society.

The guy was reported to be texting his daughter but it makes more sense that it was her baby sitter. It,s reported here the wife was reaching out to shield her husband but it also makes more sense she was trying to pull him back.
What I find suspicious is the shooter retired from the Tampa police at 51. I wonder if he had issues ,like anger management, alcohol etc.
I think this is already playing out as a TM/GZ like case BUT in this case both parties are white, adults and there are 25 witnesses.
Most cops can retire young. He was very successful and retired as a Captain...then he had another successful career in security.

According to one article, the wife was shot in the hand because she was trying to restrain her husband (had arm around his chest).

Apparently he had stood up, physically threatening the old guy).

Here in Florida many LE retirements are 25 years = 75% of your pay for life. My city was wealthy and I got 87.5 % for 25 years btw I was 45 when I retired.

What the F is up with you Americans and guns?! Old man shoots someone over texting, 12 year carries a shotgun into school shoots two, WTF?

We can't go a month without a major incident of someone trying to one-up the body count, or show how tough or cool they are with a gun....

I'm sorry but I so sad hearing this over and over.

I suspect this will push Obama's agenda even more.

It seems a lot of folks like to think this shooting was over texting and they conveniently forget the part about the shooter first going to mgt. and then the texter initiating a physical confrontation when the shooter returned to his seat. Why do you insist this man was shot for texting when that's not what happened?

You folks seem to have your facts wrong already.

1. He was NOT shot for texting.
2. He was shot for the confrontation after he was asked to STOP texting.

A local radio show had a caller on the air today who said he knew the victim very well. He called him one of his best friends. He called the victim a "hot head" without being asked by the DJ. The friend said he could see a situation where this guy was not going to back down.

Surprised no one here has brought up the Stand Your Ground Law in Florida. This will be the old mans defense strategy.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

I got a knife pulled on me for telling some kids to pipe down on a bus once. The driver had told everyone to not talk on their cell phones once we left the station. There was also a sign to that effect. These punks were almost yelling into their phones. I asked them nicely first. When they ignored me, I stood up, walked over to them and raised my voice, repeated myself. Then they piped down. On the way out of the bus one of them started waving a knife behind his back at me as I was walking behind him. If I had shot the guy, would you say he was killed for talking on his cell phone too loudly?

pretty simple case in my opinion. Old guy started the situation that escalated to the point of him shooting the guy he was pissed at. The victim had no obligation to listen to or obey any request the old guy had. He may have voiced his displeasure with the old guy making a stink about the texting, but it was during the previews so who in the right mind cares???

Hope the old guy spends the rest of his days behind bars. He's obviously not stable and shouldn't be allowed to exist with the general public.

You must have missed the part where the texting dooch hit the old man with an unknown object.

Hey Paul,

On Piers Morgan tonight - a Pasco Co. Sheriff was interviewed and he made it pretty clear this was not a case where SYG could be used for a defense. Said his dept. had been working very closely with the state attorney office/prosecutor.

He seemed very adamant that the shooter, who was charged with 2nd degree murder, would be held accountable for his actions....come what may.

It's great that the sheriffs office is already going to the press to throw some more gas on the fire.
