Sleepwalking ?s children
 

I have 6yr old twins (boy/girl)

My daughter has sleepwalked in the past, maybe 2-3 times but has not done it for quite a while now

Last night my son did it for the first time, he had to pee so bad my wife had to pick him up and rush him to the toilet
after he was done his business my wife told him to go back to bed, instead of going to bed he went and laid on the couch in the living room, about 30 mins later he came in our bedroom freaking out because he couldn't understand why he was on the couch

my house is setup where my master is on first floor and the kids bedrooms are on 2nd floor, it kind of scares me with them walking down the steps during this sleepwalking

I have no experience with this, is this kind of thing just a faze that kids go through or is it something that we should talk with someone about?

when both of them have done this it is very clear that they are asleep and not just tired

My son did it occasionally, we did not get to him fast enough one time and he pee'd on the stairs.

My sister in law used to do it so often that my MIL used to have to lock her in her room.

Unless they are coming into your room with a butcher knife, setting the house on fire or wandering outside I would not worry about it too much.

Kids tend to "shut down" and even when they are "awake" they are really not.

Next time lead him back to bed.

They grow out of it.

I agree with Stomachmonkey. My youngest did - he grew out of it. It is wierd, especially upon first finding out. I can't explain it.

My kids did this a few times. It is normal during growing up.
One thing I learned/heard is do not wake them up when they are sleepwalking. Lead them back to theire own bed.

I used to sleepwalk when I was a kid. I have no memory of it, but my mom loves telling the stories. Apparently they used to find me talking into the pantry :) I navigated the stairs no problem, never fell down them, so they weren't too concerned. But it definitely gave them a shock the first time they found me!

It seemed like my son peed everywhere but in his bed or the toilet once he could walk and then started sleepwalking. Closet, bathtub, living room floor. We thought he grew out of it but recently he told me he thought he did it at college. I'm assuming a fair bit of alcohol was involved :-) He did outgrow it at home though or I never knew he kept doing it and he managed to find the toilet at night.

Up and down the stairs as a kid. Be careful waking them up...it can be startling for them.

Daughter is 10 now and still does it only on occasion. From 4-8 years old she would sleep walk every 10 days, but would walk back to bed if we told her to.

In addition, about every 3 days, while sleeping, she would sit up, smile, laugh, etc, like you were telling her a joke and she was excited to hear it. The next day, she never remembered dreams or any part of it.

My wife and I could actually join in and start telling her funny things and she would interact. Then tell her "That is pretty funny, now you better go to sleep" and she would turn off the laughter, put her head down and sleep.

My 9 year old has done it a couple of times. Freaked me out, one time he woke me up standing by my bedside and talking gibberish.:eek: I've led him back to bed and he goes right to sleep, no memory the next morning. My 6-year old daughter will occasionally yell in her dreams, nice to wake up to yelling but find her fast asleep.

i new my daughter was asleep and i was have a conversation with her. it was weird but really funny.

i remember sleep walking when i was a kid.

My son who is rapidly approaching 17 (dang) has always been a solid sleeper. Does not talk, walk, or even ruffle up his bedding. He lays down and that's it. My daughter who is soon approaching 15 (double dang) has from about 3-4 years old been found walking in her sleep, carries full conversations in her sleep, and is a nightmare to sleep next to (toss and turns, elbows, fists) ouch. Not really concerned at this point as she wakes generally in good spirit and refreshed. Mom and Dad...not so much :)

I've been known to take phone calls while I'm asleep...

Of course, some of my exes have taken advantage of that fact once they figured it out. They'd call me in the wee hours of the morning and ask all sorts of questions they wanted.

I remember waking up during such a call after I answered her question of "which of your co-workers would you sleep with..." By the time I woke up, I was in trouble.

I don't sleepwalk, and none of my kids do, either; however, I will carry on a conversation in my sleep. Has happened many times, and I have no memory of it the next day. Really irked the wife until I could convince her I really didn't remember her tellling me such and such because I was truly asleep. Now, she laughs about it.
