Well this 331 Hemi is going in a 30 Chev 3 window coupe. The engine is the easy part, the coupe will take a year or two. Thanks for all your comments guys, I learned a few things. Thanks

Hemispherical combustion chambers were in use on many car brands prior to WW1. Fiat, Peugeot etc,for competition cars. Riley hemi engines, between the wars, formed the basis for for another generation of serious competiton car engines, eg ERA, Alta, as well as providing Rileys themselves with almost unbeatable specific power outputs for Brooklands racing. .

cdpd preceded mopar as the official chrysler parts division. I like the 392's for a blower because the distributor is in the rear, looks better with the big vertex mag in the back. had a 70 dodge R/T with a 426, bought it used in 73 for $1600, gas crunch going on then, who would have known?

Still "de-boating" this boat anchor, er sorry, this boat engine.
New home made platform for a pair of holleys, new thermostat housing, more to come. (not made by me) Now he's working on buiding a better distributer. lots more to do. ![]() [img]http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads22/0691393970066.jpg[/img Also just installed this new Hilborn style breather, also got a 2x4 breather (also Hilborn) for the Hemi.

dam dude did u make that carb adapter plate yourself?
Nice work. I'd probably only stick 2 390 cfm's on that tho I have 2 750's on mine. cant go very far on a tank of fuel. fuel pump is rated at 180 GPH You can open both fours and WATCH the gas gauge drop ...seriously tach goes one way, gas gauge the other. I think I want a 392 Hemi boat |

I know where's another hemi if anyone is interested. found it for a friend, he bought it for his new project but went with one of the flat heads I found for him earlier. talked to him yesterday and he said he would be willing to sell it. have no idea what it is but the guy he bought for had it in his race car. I can get info on it later this week. I need to go check out his new car anyway. I was told he's got $12k just in the flathead.

Update on our Hemi build
Starting to shape up.
![]() ![]() Here's how it looked ealier: ![]() Necessity being the mother of invention. Lot of parts on this engine home built including the breathers and timing cover some intake parts. I like those tall breathers. Just like Garlits' dragster. Last edited by yellowperil; 04-18-2014 at 12:52 PM.. |

If you don't mind me asking what state/city are you located? I would pay good money just to hear you start that beast up!

Years ago, when my husband was working in his dad's auto shop, a local fellow affectionately known as "hemi-Ed" brought a unique car in for restoration. It was a old race car that had been passed down through the years and pretty much run out all together. But it wasn't just any car, it was one of the Dick Landy hemi-powered darts.
The car had been tubbed some time in its life. To restore it, the floor pan got cut out of a donor car and applied to this. Then the body and paint work. Front end was all fiberglass and there was a cool tag that said something like "not for highway use" on the door sills. And it was a hemi. A real hemi baby. Not some detuned street car, this was a factory made bad ass... I was in the house about 50 yards from the shop when the freshly rebuilt engine got fired the first time (open headers of course). Timing was off and the first attempt was a fantastic misfire. The sound was brief, unbelievably loud, and so violent that I thought the propane tank outside the shop had exploded! I ran outside and obviously the shop was still standing but surrounding the car were four grown men, all dead quiet, faces filled with shock and a little fear. With shaking hands, a few quick adjustments and they started it again. Inside of a metal building, a full race hemi with open headers is simply awe inspiring. The exhaust barked and popped so hard it felt like someone was literally pounding on my chest. I had no desire to stand over the engine bay - the air pulling into the open topped carbs toyed with my hair promising to snatch it from my head if I got too close... I've been around a lot of high powered machinery and I dig it all. But the only thing more intimidating at close range than a race hemi is a top fueler. My father in-law has quite a few pics of the car. I'll try to round a few up and post. angela
