Care Package

For the mustang.
331 stroker crate motor.

With all this talk of hemis, I'm reminded of the L-88 Chebbie, back in the day, I put together for a friends 67 El Camino. A guy could go to our local Chebbie dealer & buy an L-88 short block, a set of heads and use aftermarket stuff to finish it off
*for under a thousand bucks*. That thing was a beast....not at all helped by that light rear end. A glance at the throttle would put you sideways. That motor was waaay under rated at 430 hp. It cured me forever of super powered cars on the street. Another buddy's hemi RR was tame by comparison.

The little 331 will be fine for an elderly fella. ......

I'm in the process of building one of those now for my Mercury.

That crate motor looks nice!

Years ago one of my buddies had a Chevy Nova with a very high compression cammed up engine. It would just barely idle and if you touched the throttle it just took off. I rode with him once back from a restaurant in the rain and it was terrifying. To roll on the throttle the least amount got the posi rear end spinning and we would start going sideways. He finally stopped and set the idle up a little higher and we drove home at idle.

With modern fuel injection and traction control it is likely OK to have a crazy HP street engine. Not back then.

Back in HS we used to go to the local school bus company.

They generally had a pile of 4 bolt GM blocks out back.

You could get em for $100.

Nice! Care to share a little more info as far as builder, source, cost, expected output, etc? I'm waffling on my Mustang, I can't decide if I'd rather modify the low mileage and original 302 2bbl or just drop in a crate motor and store the original one.
