any tricks/remedies to get rid of spiders ?

Went out to my detached garage the other day to do some work and I had to move one of my storage cabinets. I was surprised that behind it was a spider web with what appeared to be egg sacks or cocoons or something like that. I swept it up but then of course I looked around some more and found a few more like it. The garage is fairly tight in regards to walls/windows but the garage doors are industrial roll up type and they don't seal all that well. That is probably the point of entry. So what's the best home remedy or over the counter product to get rid of and then keep out spiders ? I really have no idea what specie they are but I want them to reside elsewhere .

These work well. Really the only effective thing I've found.

We used to have a lot of spiders in our house. Replacing our doors and windows made a huge difference.

Mud dauber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mud daubers wll kill lots of spiders. Of course you end up with mud nests everywhere. But it is 100% natural organic solution to spiders.

Have a pest control guy spray the area and then keep it clean and not cluttered.

Put up some birdhouses, get a few geckos and put them in the garage. Birds will eat bugs out flying around, so the spiders have less to eat, geckos will eat any creepy crawlies in the garage.

You can't. Spiders are everywhere...I believe the statistic is that you're NEVER more than 8 feet away from a spider.

Orkin guy told me to just keep knocking down their webs. They dont hunt, they depend 100% on things getting stuck in their webs.

Do a good job of sealing the place up & keep an eye out for any holes/crevices you missed & seal them up. Do like Hugh says & be proactive in destroying the webs & maybe spaying them with spider spray. Over time, if you keep entrances for them & their food closed & eliminate the ones you can find, you will mostly eliminate them - except for those damned harvester spiders. I don't know where they come from or what they eat.

make sure there is no food for them. That would mean killing all of the other bugs. Get some Demon Wettable Powder and spray inside the garage including behind things and in cracks and crevices. Also spray the perimeter of the garage including around all doors and windows and any soffit vents. I find that Demon WP will pretty much kill all bugs, and if you spray from time to time that will pretty much do the trick.

Demon is pretty good stuff.

You won't get them all with birdhouses, but I was shocked at the impact it had when we lived on a lake

I got 4 chickens a year ago and let them range free in the yard when I am home. this has dropped the insect population dramaticly in the yard and in the house as there are fewer to find their way in-

Phhht. If I had a dollar for every spider web around here I'd be a hundredaire. We keep the house sprayed and clear but have given up on the garage and shed. I live in the sticks. You have to get used to living with critters. I keep the bug population to a minimum and a shop vac with extension does a number on the webs. Only two things I go out of my way to kill on sight are poisonous snakes and bald faced hornets. Oh and fire ants. How could I forget. Killin' fire ants can be a full time job during the summer.

Dog kills the voles. Cats kill the mice, which means less snakes. Spiders eat the bugs. Dirt Daubers eat the spiders. Bats eat the mosquitos. Circle of life.

If I could have chickens I wouldn't have to worry about ticks, but if I get chickens my neighbor would get goats and goats stink like, well goats, which are foul smelling creatures even if they do make good BBQ.

Can you tell it's Friday? My whole week has been like one giant non-sequitur run-on sentence that just won't flippin' end...and I'm out of beer. -J
