Also, remember that Russia is really just 2 cities. The rest are irrelevant. And actually, its just one city. St Petersburg is a tourist town. The few mile radius extending from Red Square contains an unimaginable amount of money and influence.

I doubt the Russians will sit still until they achieve their goal, which is to be taken seriously, as they were at various times in the recent past. The loss of states during the breakup of the USSR is still smarting. The Russians want revenge. They have an incredible history and culture that they are extremely proud of, and rightfully so. Just as we adamantly wish (force) to expand our brand of democracy, the Russians wish to expand their vision.

Absolutely.

Take a look at the history and not just the last 100 years. Who on earth are we to think that after the USSR collapses out of the ruins a democratic society will grow? What is coming was in the works for many years.

This has the potential to make a huge mess in Europe, as what the balkan war almost ended up in the early 90's. As you might remember you as in the Americans had to stand up because the Europeans did not agree wit each other. (surprise...)

As an European I have been following the news pretty closely over the last 20 years. There are very large mistakes made that can not be turned around that easy. All worked reasonably ok up till the introductory of the Euro.

As much as the politicians try to sell their ideas and working hard to get their names in history books, their citizens don't support their idea's. The politicians try hard to build a united Europe that will be a world player. But it just not going to work. Why? Because deep down they all hate each other. History has proven this, and will be repeated. It's just a matter of time.

you might think what the heck this got to do with Russia. What I try to say is that ethnic background and a turbulent history is the major reason why this was bound to happen.

Ouch, we're transiting Moscow in 4 weeks time, on the way to Madrid. I have a 3 year visa to Russia, but not looking good. I guess suspension of diplomatic relations is probably coming soon.

If Poland is in danger from the Russians, why don't we just give it to the Germans?

The cute Olympic party mask has fallen away, revealing the rabid Russian Bear for what it is, a snarling empire grasping beast.

Your iggerance is astounding...this just came to you?

During the 2008 Olympics in Beijing Putin was sitting in the stands waving and clapping for the Russian teams all the while back on the ranch the Russian Army was marching into my sweet Georgia. (go read my pieces on Radio Tabs).

That is where one knew that Putin was a Great White...

Tabs,

Perhaps I am mis-interpreting your statements, but you seem to be contradicting your self from the beginning to the end of your post.
Did you mean to say "that he thinks Russia rightfully should be"?

Also, I suspect Putin is every bit as dangerous as Stalin. He has adapted to the media age and knows he must dispose of his enemies with more discression than Joseph.
The timing of the intervention after the wave of bonhomie of the Olympics was probably worth every ruble spent on the games.

I think we are seeing Hungary ('56) replayed.

Putin thinks that Russia SHOULD BE/DESERVES to be a world power..

With what the west is doing more like Czechoslovakia in 1938.

The last American Real Politik guy was Henry Kissinger, but his time is past as he is near 90 years old...

Sec of State John Kerry might as well be a fairy...for all the backbone that guy has, Hagel blithers, ...and Obama is a hanging Johnny.

What America needs is someone who can go move to move with Putin. There is one thing that you have to accomplish with Putin...

A new soap opera is about to start, Ukrainian Insurrection. I think it will run about 2 years before Putin pulls out.

There is nothing Partisan about my blathering...these guys are WEAK...hanging johnnys.

Do ya think that Putin's evaluation is partisan to? Or is it a Real Politk assessment of these guys intestinal fortitude. Their ability to take decisive action, and not talk about it while Putin gets his way...

It isn't partisan...he speaks the truth. Being a European and a Canadian, it is clear that the current US administration does not have an 'effin clue what they are doing. if you want at least a small example of what needs to happen, at least the Canadian prime minister is taking a principled stand.

Obama and crew ought to try it....

Nope just tearing a piece of territory off that he can grab cheap...and he will grab for a second piece of the pie if and when the opportunity knocks. He is just adding another territory to the Empire.

It is all kinda like the Board game RISK...

meanwhile, kerry is spouting off that russia will lose. kerry, sorry to break it to you, the russians won without firing a shot.

Do you really think a few thousand flower-bearing young people in Kiev are going to be any sort of opposition for Putin?

DEAR MR MOTION, I AM NOT A PARTISAN IDEOLOGUE. My evaluations only speak to the truth of the matter. This what I do on a professional level and there is no room for sentiment in analysis. It is the cold hard truth as seen in the cold hard light of day. It is called Real Politik..
