Gordon Kirby on the Tudor United SportsCar Series
NASCAR rules come to US sports car racing and it ain't good:
"I don't think the series has a long term plan," he declared. "I can honestly see sometime next year we'll be running some kind of restrictor plate and they're just going to continue messing with the cars trying to equalize everyone. I think that's going to be their MO for trying to bring a fan base to this series. "A DP is nothing more than a late seventies Trans-Am car with more bodywork. They're an antique, tube-frame car and the mentality of the people we have to deal with is equally antique. They don't want change, they don't want technology. They're not interested in selling technology and I think it's going to kill them in the long run. They're just hurtling toward the cliff and they don't seem to realize it." The entire article.... They've had "restrictor plates" for more than a decade in the form of the sonic orifice restrictor and the ACO and FIA have been using small tweaks in restrictor size along with weight and aerodynamics to maintain the ever controvercial "Balance of Performance". That part is nothing new.

The saving grace is that they will loose all the factory support and most of the P2's if their GT and P classes can't compete at Le Mans. So I figure the P2's will have to stay close enough to ACO spec and can't be slowed too much. They already run on the spec Continentals, though. So maybe that won't stop NASCAR. Might end up with DP cars only, plus GTLM and GTD. Oh, and the PC cars.

Level 5 racing announced the other day that after winning the 24 Hours of Daytona they are pulling out of the series......not a good sign.

i keep wondering, how hard is it to run FIA GT3 and WEC P1 and P2 classes?
seems pretty basic to me. |

This is what I predicted when they announced the "merger". If you followed what this bunch did to AMA roadracing in it's first year, you won't predict a good outcome for this series, either.
As bad as I hate Nascar for dumbing down racing in this country and sucking all of the sponsorship money away from racing series that I liked to watch, I really hate the incompetance and arrogance these knuckleheads posess. It's not enough to dumb it down, ALA Nascar. They've got to **** it up, too. JR |
