Too big to fail

Just saw this on the gooding site
1957 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia | Gooding & Company Estimated to be $45k-$55k. Looks like there were a lot of shortcuts taken and "improvements" made with this car.

Wow- some creativity there and keeping with the Bimmer theme. And that K motor laying down... so cool!
Is RB Racing around? Get a boost with a little turbo bolt-on. Should squeeeeze it all and find 200hp! LOL Thanks for sharing

I like it and it looks like someone put some time into getting it into really nice condition.

What is the deal with all of the //M stuff? Is it really part of M division?
Seems kinda ricery to me otherwise. YMMV Still a cool car though.

Pretty neat little car. I like the chop top look. Also looks like they grafted the rear of an E21 on there.
Is there any benefit to the K engines over the twins? Curious why they didnt use a modern oilhead engine, too big?

The auction site said that the owner wanted to do sort of a 'what would an "M" 700 be like had they made one.' I think the whole car has a tongue in cheek coolness to it, that was the goal I think. The only thing I don't like is the obviousness of the audio system, I like that it's there mind you...just wish it was more of a stealth install.

I've never seen one of these before, how can you resist - it's rear engined.
Another Example: Looks to be the original engine Track-Friendly Microcar: 1960 BMW 700 Coupe Quote:

E21 wheels and tail lights, E30 seats and a BMW bike engine. Is it a Bimmer or Beemer? lol

Hi Wayne,
I have a close friend that collects BMW 700 and earlier. He has a 700 cabrio and also this racer. If you are ever looking for parts, he has a storage container full 700 panels, glass, engines, transmissions etc. Just shoot me a PM and I'll give you the contact info. Heres a shot of his 700 racer

Kool car, but Wow I mean WOW those prices are insane. I understand some of the "1 of's..." or raced cars but a pristine 911 with no lineage or special model for 100's of K's??
I thought Barrett Jackson was over the top....

Hey Wayne,
Very cool!!! When you get a chance, could you post information on the transaxle that is in the car? I'd be curious to know what was their solution to the >3x hp (and probably even more torque) and packaging it all in there. Thanks! |
